Allen Bradley 1756 PLC - Encoder for PLS Windows

Hello All

I have an older machine that has an existing Electro Cam PLS.
I want to look to replace this system and add an encoder to capture the machine position and create CAM windows for functions in the PLC.

Anyone have experience with this - Allen Bradley 1756 Control Logix PLC.

I've asked AB for help and they tried to get me to purchase an ANCI PLS Card and that is not what I'm going to be allowed to do.

I want to add an encoder - card in the PLC and create my own 0-360 scale.

I'm confused here with the wording. You want to add an encoder card but you are not allowed to use a AMCI (I assumed you meant that instead of ANCI)?

My work is not going to allow me to use that type of setup.
I think they want me to install an independent encoder and write our own code for the PLS windows.

So, what exactly is the objection? Is it not having spare card slot or they don't want adding another specificity card into the PLC chassis?

They also make a stand-alone encoder interface. You can then feed the position via Ethernet/IP into the PLC.
