A mother and child walk down an escalator which is running at constant speed in the downward direction. Once on the escalator, the child walks three times as quickly as his mother. When they get to the bottom they compare notes, the child counted 20 steps whilst the mother counted 40 steps. If the escalator is stopped, how many steps would it have showing?
