Redundancy on S7 300 PLCs

I would like to know the best way to make two S7 300 PLCs redundant.
Each PLC would have the same slaves( on S5 115U PLC through IM 308, one ET 200U trough IM318 and one OP37). The S7 300 PLCs will be linked to Citect SCADA software through the CP 342-5. Is that possible?. I will appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Eduardo

Hola, Sr. Pelegrin;

The only way you can implement redundancy between S7-300 CPUs is through a software package called "Redundancy", part no. 6ES7 862-0AC00-0YA0. It allows connection of 2 S7-300 or 400 CPUs through MPI connections or Profibus CPs, and updates the CPU memorys througn that link. Switch-over can use more than one CPu cycle to be effective (it can go over one second ) and outputs remain frozen during switch-over.
So it is not as efficient as -F or -H systems, but it will work , if your time constraints are not exacting.
Look at the Siemens support website:

http://www4.ad.siemens.de/-snm-0135...hangelang=true&aktprim=0&siteid=cseus&lang=en

and look for ID# 15222081. This will give you much more information.

Say hello to Freddy of the Bull for me.
Hope this helps,
Daniel Chartier

Thanks a lot Daniel, it is nice to be in contact with you again. I will try it and I will let you know how the things are going.

Best regards,
Eduardo

hello!
If you don´t have slaves that are capable of redundancy you must use a
y-link to connect them to the system !

from siemens pages:
Principle of operation
Software Redundancy is a software package for the design of fault-tolerant controllers with standard components on a software basis. The PLC part consists of standard S7-300 and S7-400 CPUs. The redundant link for the comparison of the two redundant CPUs is implemented by means of standard communication means, such as communication processors, or via MPI. The I/Os are connected via two redundant PROFIBUS-DP lines to the ET-200M stations, with redundant IM 153-2 interface modules

Application
The software package permits the design of fault-tolerant systems with low requirements on changeover speed and dynamics, because the changeover time can be more than one second. During the changeover the outputs are frozen at the status before changeover..

Usable modules
At present, the modules listed below can be used for systems with software redundancy (as per March 2003). The range of modules will be expanded continuously.

You will find up-to-date lists of modules for use in systems with software redundancy in the SIMATIC FAQs

Please note:
The ET 200M stations must always be designed with active bus modules (6ES7195-7HB00-0XA0 or 6ES7195-7HC00-0XA0), even though the function removal and return of I/O modules during runtime of the CPU is not possible with S7-300 CPUs, for principle reasons.

Thanks a lot Nif and Daniel,at the time when I wanted to write this reply I had a little problem in my computer, so I do not know if my reply was sent out.According to the valuable information you sent me the redundancy of the slaves is done using the ET 200M with dual DP ports, but here I have the S7 300 PLC (315-2 DP) connected to the slaves through its unique DP port. The slaves are one S5 115U PLC through IM 308, one ET 200U trough IM318 and one OP37 which only have one DP port. May I have the redundancy between the CPUs only?. If that is the case how these slaves would be connected to both CPUs to get them connected to the reserve CPU in case of the primary CPU failure?. Your comments will very useful.

Thanks,
Eduardo

Hello Eduardo;

Here is an excerpt of the SWR_e.pdf file that Niklas suggested earlier: it shows that you can use "unilateral peripherals" (units conmnected to a single CPU) with the Software redundancy package. That is, you will be able to connect to your ET-200U, S5-115U and OP37 on each S7-300; then you can use specialized function blocks to transfer the acquired data to the redundant system.
Hope this helps,
Daniel Chartier

Thanks a lot Daniel I will work on it. I will let you know my results.
May I contact you through your email address?

Hello

y-link module dosen't support the software redundancy

YOU MUST USE IM153-2
The I/Os are connected via two redundant PROFIBUS-DP lines to the ET-200M stations, with redundant IM 153-2 interface modules

Account manager

Dear Sir,

With this e-mail I'm sending you the information about the activities of my company, Unis Group based at the Netherlands.

Unis is a company that repairs all kind of industrial electronics. We are specialised in the brands Siemens, ABB, Texas and Instruments. We make about 10.000 repairs a year.

We do also carry one of the biggest stocks in Europe of Siemens S5 and other families of Siemens like Simodrives, Sinumeriks, Teleperm, S7, OP's etc. If we don't have the product you are looking for we can contact our network of world-wide suppliers. We have good contacts directly in Germany to get for example Siemens S7 at interesting prices.

We sell from our own stock for about 60% of the German siemens list price. We give discounts up to 25% to dealers and resellers (no discount to end-users). The products are mainly second-hand but tested 100% and sold with 6 months warranty. Our sale prices are on demand; you will be answered the same day. We do not only sell Siemens, we have also Allen Bradley, Indramat, Schneider, Modicon, Texas, ect. on stock.

If also the repair service interests you, you can take off 25% of discount on the siemens , ABB and TI repair prices. Of course not all the items we repair are in those lists, if you want to receive a repair quote, please transmit us the part number, you will be answered shortly.

If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact us,

Best regards,

Nayel Habib
