Programming Siemens

S7-1500 is slowly replacing the S7-300's, I suspect once PCS7 moves from 400's to 1500's the 400's will go away too. I think that has been rolled back to 2025. I may be wrong, but with the licensing scheme of the S7-410 (current model), I doubt it will work with any system other than PCS7.
Yeah, PCS7 is based on "classic" S7-400 and WinCC v7.
The problem is not the technology. S7-1500H can do what S7-400H does.
But there is a lot of reluctance to be a first mover, when you have a process that has a value measured in billions rather than millions.
Also, both Siemens and 3rd party vendors have invested a lot in developing solutions in PCS7 for specific industries. And as far as I know making an automatic migration for these solutions is very difficult (impossible ?).

Actually V10 was for 2010 , V11 in 2011 etc etc
But the years went by too quick

Someone should've told them they don't need to introduce a new version every year.... its a LOT better now but I would hate running a older version and nothing worse than have to upgrade to a newer version and spend 2 hrs uploading software and configuring it for a 2 minute change on a processor because its new and your software is a few months old

And even worse, you could not skip... so you had to update one version at a time, OMG... that drove me crazy

But I am happy with them now... I did see that v16 is coming out?

Fair warning, they are rev 1 products, and currently have a ton of limitations. I'm sure in a version or two they'll be better

I was looking at this for a water system and noticed and among the limitations is PID processing. So not quite there yet.

I did have this conversation with the PCS7 Siemens specialist in the UK and he laughed at my suggestion that PCS7 will move out of the 400 series. As he said it, the new S7-400 units (the 410, for example) share one thing with the older units... which is the box.
I can see the 400's being replaced by 1500 for individual automation, but not for PCS7.
