Hello everyone !

I'm glad to join this forum !
I'm Lâm HUYNH, MBA student at EDHEC Business School in Nice. I'm doing a strategy project on software business models in automation software industry. My focus is on PLC software and DCS. I'm starting my study concerning Rockwell PlantPax (DCS) and Rslogic (PLC software), and Yokogawa Centum (DCS). When looking at their web sites, I can get information but not a complete view about the revenue stream, and distribution channels.

Let's start with Rockwell PlantPax. Here what I know :
As a client, you can download the templates of the virtual machines (desktop or servers) and use them on your plant. You have to pay the licences of each operation system instances(Windows 10, or Windows 2012 server) and each installed Rockwell software. Tell me if I'm wrong.

- What are the other ways to buy the DCS solution from Rockwell?
(DVD boxes for example for offline plants...)

- How do I activate the licence? What kind of license? Do I get the license number online via emails, of physically in a box?

- Are there additional fees like a yearly subscription fee? If yes, which service do we pay for? If upgrades are included how do I get them : physically, or online on internet?

- Are there any additional services? at which cost?

Thank you all in advance !

Regards,

Lâm

That's not how it's done.

You contact the DCS supplier, they discuss with you, set up some meetings, they suggest what they can offer that fulfill your needs - including equipment, help with the installation and any process engineering needs, training etc. You'll get a quote and if you like it you come to some kind of agreement. Equipment is installed, things are connected, configured, programmed and tested. Operators get training. System is now in use. You have some kind of service agreement so you get bugfixes, upgrades and support as needed.

PLC systems are completely different.
