Did some testing today and only confused myself more.

PLC5/20E processor name "line3"

On the workstation connected to port 0 is a file by the name
of line3.rss. file matches program in processor memory.

Do an upload and everything works fine, go online and
all is well.

Go offline and make changes to the file (deleted two
instructions from LAD 8 rung 0) verify and all OK

Do an upload and everything goes smooth as proven
by looking at LAD8 rung 0 and it is the program from
the processor. Everything appeared identical to the
first upload, no extra popups, warnings or anything.

Go offline and make three copies of line3.rss, name
them 1.rss, 2.rss and 3.rss. Make a couple of changes
to the logic in each of these three files. I now have
four files in the "project" subdirectory and each is
just a little different from the other - logic wise.
All have the processor name of "line3" and
none have the same checksum as the running
program in fact the three numbered files have a
checksum of 0000 and a last edit time stamp of
0/0/0000 0:00:00. The "ignore edit timestamp for
online file match is not checked.

Do an upload and the file loaded is 1.rss by name
but is actually a copy of the program in the processor.

Go offline and delete 1.rss. Do an upload and the
file loaded (by name) is 2.rss but is a copy of the
program in the processor.

I understand the upload is working but why is it not referencing
the file by the name of "line3.rss"? Why no warnings that
the file does not match or chosing different filename.
Does anyone know the criteria the processor uses when
searching the HDD for a file to compare to? Appeared it
it justlooks at the first file in numerical/alphabetical order
which has the correct processor name.
Using RSLOGIX ver. 6.3

Did a couple of searches on PLC5 upload order but
found nothing.

Thanks to all in advance.

I can't ansewer your question , but I do know you didn't load a .RSS file into a PLC5 (a .RSP?) I know picky, picky ,picky
