4th year electrician in BC, Canada

My experience with PLC's is mostly with physical installation as an electrician apprentice.

My programming experience is with modicon, Rockwell micrologix, and siemens logo.

I am attracted to PLC programming as I enjoy problem solving, and designing. This skill has come naturally to me, and was my strongest point in my schooling

I have passed my inter provincial exams and am only waiting on 200 hours until I am a journeyman electrician in canada.
 
UK based, I have lots (>30 years) experience writing, testing, commissioning PLC based systems. I have recent experience with TIA Portal and Control Logix / Factory Talk as well as IQ Works and others (Unitronics, Panasonic, Omron)


Up to the end of factory testing I work on a fixed price / firm quote basis, commissioning is on a dayrate.

Education:
Industrial Electronics 2 year degree from Wenatchee Valley College with a focus on AB PLC's. (500/5000, basic networks, troubleshooting and programming)
2 year industrial machinist certification.
Allen Bradley accelerated Maintainer program.

Work History:
1 year @ a Plastic extrusion and thermoforming facility using legacy motion control from Baldor and Yaskawa integrated with SLC5 series plc components.

2 years working for a local DOT in a newly constructed tunnel facility using 5000 series components (pre v22 rslogix) in a complete SCADA system controlling traffic flow, ventilation, fire detection and suppression, pumps ect... I spend most of my time interpreting the way our system is supposed to run then verifying if we are functioning as designed.

ModBus, BacNet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, EthernetIP.

Looking for more opportunities to grow and learn from experienced individuals. Part time, weekends, on call or for the right opportunity I'd consider a career change. PNW preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance in supporting chemical plant operations 24/7/365. Tasked to safely troubleshoot, diagnosis, and repair a wide array of electrical distribution, instrumentation, and automated control systems. Need a self-starter who promotes organizational safety goals, possesses strong work ethics, embraces continuous improvement, and thrives in a collaborative team environment. The passion to learn is paramount.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Technical certification from an accredited trade school, and/or military occupational specialty (MOS) code with rating equivalency is preferred.
State Electrical License, or a certificate from a nationally recognized electrical apprenticeship training program is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:

Fluent in English, both oral and written.
Must have a strong working aptitude with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
A high electro/mechanical aptitude
Familiar with using integrated computer maintenance management system (CMMS) software. Understand department work order scheduling, work order processing, logging task details, and time tracking.
Competent in applying personal safety practices and always takes initiative in proactively keeping their teammates and work environment safe.
Candidate required to be resourceful, able to understand and execute work from researching department standard operating procedures, piping & instrumentation drawings (P&IDs), instrument loop drawings, electrical termination schedules, electrical one-line diagrams, and OEM equipment manuals schematics.
Diagnose, troubleshoot and rectify issues in a methodical and profession manner

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position will report to and carry out all tasks and directives delegated by Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Shop Supervision or Maintenance Management Staff
Perform or participate in other tasks as required to support maintenance responsibilities including, but not limited to - plant cleanliness, warehouse operations, outage planning and execution, and continuous improvement initiatives
Expected to work 4/10-hour normal shifts, plus possible overtime. Must be willing and able to also work scheduled 12 hr. shifts as scheduled by management.
Required to participate in a scheduled "On-Call" rotation.
Participate in project planning, updating various drawings, work procedures, and spare parts inventory management.
Install new plant electrical distribution, instrumentation, and control systems equipment, as scheduled plant projects dictate
Work with minimal supervision while regularly communicating with management regarding work progress, concerns and questions
Adhere to company environmental, health, and safety policies & procedures, including NFPA 70E safety standards when working with High Voltage electrical generation and distribution equipment
Act as a liaison between work groups to improve performance and reliability of facility
Communicate with all work groups during scheduled downtime of equipment and during plant outages
Maintain Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) to support plant storage & transportation safety laws
Minimal travel required, mostly for training, obtaining TWIC card, etc.
Ability to supply and maintain a required list of tools
Responsible for upkeep of personal workspaces
Perform other related duties requested by the I&E Supervisor to meet the ongoing needs of the organization
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Able to wear all required personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, latex/rubber/leather gloves, safety boots, FR clothing and respirator
Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
The candidate will be required to climb and balance with confidence. Must be able to climb stairways, and ladder ways up towers. Be able to safely work from elevated platforms, boom lifts, at elevations over 150 feet.
Candidate will be required to work inside confined spaces and comply with all safety and PPE requirements.
Must be able to lift and carry, up to 40 lbs.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, stand, talk and hear; and to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
