Quick question for y'all. Went by a new client's plant today, and they have an older CompactLogix controller; it's an L32E. From what I have gathered, they're discontinued and the 5370 series replaced them. My question is, can I use Logix5K (V24) to connect to it, and grab the existing program? I can't find anything to the contrary, but wanted to verify.

You need to have the version of Studio5K/RS5K corresponding to the processors firmware, which you can determine with RSLinx. If you have TechConnect you can download the appropriate revision. After version 10 or so multiple versions can exist on the same computer.

As long as your programming software supports the firmware revision that the Compactlogix is running, you can connect and upload.

If you are running V24 and the CompactLogix is V16, you will have to load the old V16 Logix5000 in order to connect.

I have one V16 ControlLogix left. And I get reminded that I need to install the old V16 .. twice a year or so

Afraid not...You will need RSL5K V.20.04 or lower, depending of the CPU firmware level.

Firmware Revision 20 is the highest the old 1769-L32Es CompactLogix would accept; chances are the customer's one is running something lower than 20.

Thanks for all the info guys. I do indeed have TechConnect so what I'll do is use RSLinx to figure out firmware version, and then obtain appropriate version of Logix.
