Greetings
I need to communicate a PLC5/80E to a Compactlogix L35E via Ethernet.
I found in the AB knowledgebase a note that explains how to connect an SLC 500 with a Logix using the MSG block and the PLC 2,5/SLC Mapping in the RSLogix 5000 software. (http://rockwellautomation-es.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19705/kw/Messaging%20from%20a%20SLC%205%2F05%20Controller%20%28channel%201%29%20to%20a%20Logix%20Controller/r_id/113043)
i wonder if this note can be also apllied to a PLC 5, or if there's another way to communicate boths PLCs via Ethernet.

Thanks

You can do a msg but the plc5 must have a certain firmware revision. I had to upgrade to firmware L1 on a Plc5 20/E. Also I was using an L61 processor but I think an L35E will work too.
Set up a plc5 type tag in the L35E. Then setup a plc5 typed read in the plc5.Setup the multihop out of port 2 and put the IP address of the L35E in.
Hope this helps

The PLC-5E and 1785-ENET "Sidecar" module require firmware that supports "Multi-Hop" messaging, and if you are going to put the MSG instructions in the PLC-5 you will need RSLogix 5 software that supports that function too.

All the examples for SLC-5/05 apply also to PLC-5E (the 5/20E, 5/40E, and 5/80E).

This feature was added more than ten years ago to the PLC-5.

RA Knowledgebase article 19325 has the specifics versions. The firmware revision letter/number depends on the Series letter of the PLC-5.

For the PLC-5E controllers, you will need these firmware revisions or newer:

Series F rev A
series E rev D.1
series D rev E.1
series C rev N.1
