Its a S7-200 part # 6ES7 216-2BD23-0XB0

A customer sent me one of these to extract the program out of. I have zero experience with Siemens S7 line and need help determining which software I should use and if I need a special cable or can I use a regular straight thru serial cable or with a null modem. It has 2 DB9 connectors labeled port 0 and port 1.

Any help would be much appreciated

Step7 Microwin for programming and a PPI cable for download/upload.

If you extract the program from the CPU itself, you'll loose symbolic names and comments..

You will need Microwin software:
6ES7810-2CC03-0YX3
STEP7-MICRO/WIN V4.0 (UG) G/E/F/I/S/C

A pc adapter capable of comunicating with PPI:

6ES7901-3CB30-0XA0
SIMATIC S7-200, PC/PPI CABLE MM

Or usb version

6ES7901-3DB30-0XA0
SIMATIC S7-200,USB/PPI CABLE MM

There are also Adapters that can handle PPI/MPI and Profibus.
For 200/300/400 series:

6ES7972-0CB20-0XA0
SIMATIC S7, PC ADAPTER USB

First check to see if there is a CN on the end of the part number... Siemens does not make the 200 anymore so if it has a CN on the end its a China made one... Siemens China is still making the 200 smart series for China and India

We sell a MultiMaster cable that supports all baud rates and I would recommend that cable as I have never had one it will not work with

For the software, if its a US/EU CPU than try contacting your local Siemens distributor, they gave me my first version of MicroWin, the last version was V4.0 SP9
