Hello Friends,

Please i am having a challenge with powerflex 700 and Rslogix 5000.
I just lost one of my drive, powerflex 700 5.5kw version 8.002 communicating via 20-COMM-E.
The replacement i have is powerflex 700 7.5kw version 9.001.
I have assigned the IP ADDRESS to the comms card of the new drive and the PLC cannot recognise due to firmware version.
I want to know the step by step procedure to follow in RSlogix 5000 for the PLC controller to recognise the New drive.

Please assist.

You have to download and upgrade your AOP for the powerflex, that can be done from AB page. Then your new drive is going to be recognized by your plc, do not forget to upgrade your EDS at the same time. Please check that you can ping your drive with or without having upgrade your AOP. Your new drive has to appear with a question mark on your rslinx.

First is the drive IP set correctly and is it visible on the Ethernet network?
Basically do you get a response when you PING it?

Second, open RSLinx software.do you have the Ethernet/IP or Ethernet driver set up and running?
Does the drive show up in the Ethernet driver tree?
It should if it's on the network. Answer these questions and we can go further.

Hello sir,

The old drive is on ethernet/IP network with IP.address 192.168.50.251.
The controller is a logix 5572 and panelview plus 1000.
I have assigned this IP to the new drive, when i ping, i get a reply alright on the network. The PLC controller cannot recognise because it still has the older drive firmware version in its program

Hello Sir,

Please where can i get the AOP for the powerflex 700, and how do i download it, also where do i upgrade the EDS file.

If the CPU firmware is at Rev.18 or higher:
Make sure the drive is powered up and the comms module had been properly addressed.
1. Open up the old RSL5K application file.
DO NOT GO ONLINE!
2. Right-click the old drive module and choose Properties.
3. Under the General tab pick the Change button.
4. Within the Module Definition applet, in the lower left corner pick the Match Drive button.
After the Drives Services Communication utility uploads the connected drive configuration Apply the changes to the application file and then Save it.
5. Download to the controller.

If the CPU firmware revision is 17 or lower you will have to
1.Download the Drives-PowerFlex/SCANPORT 4.07.00 RSL5K Add-On Profile from:
https://download.rockwellautomation.com/esd/download.aspx?downloadid=addonprofiles
2.Install the AOP
3.Download the drive's .EDS file from :
http://www.ab.com/support/abdrives/webupdate/LV_Drives_EDS_Quick_Links.pdf
4.Use the RSLinx EDS Wizard and register the downloaded .EDS file on your PC.
5.Add the new drive module within the Offline RSL5K application file making sure the entered ratings are matching the physical drive.
5.Save the project and Download to the controller.

Hello Sir,

The unfortunate thing is that, the OLD drive 5.5kw version 8.002, got blown and it was switching on at all, so i was not able to retrieve any parameters, so i want to replace with the 7.5kw version 9.001

If the controller revision is 18 or newer, the drive's parameters are included within the RSL5K application file if a perfect matched model had been used and Saved at least once.
Make a copy of the last RSL5K application which went Online with the system containing the 8.001 PowerFlex and keep it handy for parameters settings reference.
Download and install the AOP and .EDS and then change the drive's Module Definition Revision to the current one, however, major revision changes are usually restructuring the parameters and you might end up with a "shelf" drive configuration anyway; using the old RSL5K application copy you should be able to restore the original drive settings.
If the controller is at Rev.17 or lower and you don't have a DriveExecutive/DriveExplorer drive configuration file you are in trouble. You will need to re-commission the application.

Hello sir,

please my controller revision is 19.11 as well as my Rslogix 5000 is rev 19.
Please where and how can i download the AOP and EDS files.
After i have changed the revision in the drive properties from 8.002 to 9.001, do i have to click 'match drive' or i have to do a full download

My first post includes the download links (#6 within the thread).
If you Match the drive the old configuration settings will be overwritten; make sure you have another copy you could look up later.
You will still have to download to the controller when done.

Look up and download Drives-PowerFlex/SCANPORT 4.07.00.
It includes all non-motion PowerFlex Drives latest revisions.
