I am responsible for maintaining some GE Legacy products, i.e. GE Series Five and Series Six PLC's.
I have user manuals that are not much good. Our support is not that great either.
I need to know how to search for instructions in the software for these systems. The manuals I have include a page on searching but the instructions do not work. I get errors whether I search for a Nickname or a Reference Address.
The programs are so large that it seems to take forever to simply page up and down through the logic. Not a good situation when you are in the heat of battle.

Help please.
Thanks.

I work on Series Five or Series Six so seldom nowadays that I have to relearn how to use Logicmaster every time. I do have the manuals for both packages, so if you tell me the publication number, and the page number of the procedure you're trying to follow, plus the error messages you get, I'll try to help.

GE Series Five

The Publication Number for the Series Five is GFK-0023 PAge 4-6.
The instructions are not clear. They show no example and the instructions are vauge as to how to type in the Nickname or the address. The error is Invalid Entry.
Thanks:

I work everyday with the series six PLC and logicmaster. to search for a reference in the program. type in the nickname or th input number etc. ie I999 or O999 or A0999 or AI999 and press F2 (standard computer keyboard) which will then put you into search mode and then press F1 to go to the first reference in the program. To continue the search from this point press P4 then F1 again. To go straight to an output or AO there is no need to enter search mode (by pressing F2) just type in the nickname or output number and press F1.
I consider myself to be very profficient on Series Six PLC's so any more questions let me know!

It doesn't really matter whether you enter search mode first and then put in your reference. Either way it should work. What are the error messages you are getting?

Are you using a standard PC keyboard or a logicmaster one?

The errors are either Nickname Not Defined or Invalid Entry. I am trying right now to search and I am getting Nickname Not Defined. Is there somewhere in the program that the addresses have to be difined? Maybe our integrator 15 years ago did not complete his program.

When you are viewing the program are any nicknames displayed or is it all reference numbers?

Steve I will be online for the next hour or so if you want to go through this in 'real time'

I have told the program to display all comments. I am entering the Output O0004 and am getting Nickname Not Defined. The program is displaying the actual I/O addresses as well as any comments that are entered.

Ok steve I think I know where you are going wrong. I take it that for the O for output you are typing o on the keyboard. for an output you need to press the Ctrl key and the o at the same time, to place an O on the second line of the data area on the bottom right of the screen. to enter an input or I do the same (Ctrl I). or keyboard shortcuts are, I is the minus key on the numeric side of the keyboard. O is the backspace key. A ( in AI or AO ) is scroll lock, enter is pagedown (num lock must be off) so for example to enter AI999, press scrolllock, backspace, 999.

The Ctrl Key worked.
Thanks so much. No one at GE or our Vendor experts could tell me that. I guess I should have looked at my referece card but it doesn't always help either.
I owe you lunch, where do you live?
I'm in North Carolina.

I work with Allen Bradley PLC's mostly. If you ever need any help just let me know. I have great Factory and Vendor support on those PLC's and I can find out anything you may need to know.
Heck, you probably know more about them than I do.
