Micrologix 1100 or micro 820

Hello forum, i want to buy a ab plc for practices purposes, where I live , most jobs requires you to have knowledge in rslogix 500 , based on that I search for a micrologix 1100 1763-L16DWD , and I find a cheap one, but I also found an even cheaper micro 820 2080-LCD-20QBB.

If I get the micrologix 1100 I will be able to play with rslogix 500, it looks like the dominant software , it unlocks me experience in all micrologix plc family , am I correct?

The micro 820 took my attention because it has an analog output, looks like a complete plc to practices a lot of different scenarios.

Is the rslogix 500 still being the popular software? Or the micro 800 software is gaining popularity?

Could you guys give me your opinions on which plc should I buy?

You can get free software for both of these PLC's, the ML1100 uses RSLogix500 and the Micro820 uses Connected Component Workbench (CCW).

The CCW software is different to RSLogix500, if you learn RSLogix500 you can then apply this learning in SLC500 and PLC5 PLC's.

If you're looking to get experience for a job, then go with the 1100 and RSLogix 500. I agree with Alan - the 500 software is applicable to other PLCs which are still found in a factories and plants everywhere. When it comes time for a lot of places to upgrade those PLC's, they tend to go towards the Compact/Control platform which uses RSLogix 5000.
Knowing 500 is a good stepping stone to the 5000 software.

If the jobs need 500, then do the 1100, otherwise the 820. The 1100's programming environment is archaic; the CCW environment is tag-based and offers more flexibility.
