Safety Interlock PLC – Adding New NonSafety I/O

A client is the need to add new I/O points to SCADA. The most affordable solution is to wire these new points to an existing safety interlock PLC. If these points are wired to the PLC, would a code violation of any kind occur? Would the integrity of the safety integrity system be preserved?
