Hi,

Am new to PLC Programming, though i know the basic functionality. I am interested to learn programming but do not have software for Programming.

Can anybody provide me AB programming software.

Thanks,

You can e-mail me at [email protected]

Have a look at www.thelearningpit.com.

There is a free AB emulation programming and simulation program there. For $35.00 it will have increased functionality. You can simulate your programs, no PLC needed. It uses the AB syntax. Tutorials and lab exercises are included.

Aside from the free version AB offers for the 10 point Micrologix 1000 PLC, if you want to program any other PLC, you will have to cough up the money. AB software uses activation keys. It will not run without the key. I doubt that you will find someone to give you their activation key that they paid for themselves.

Or you can wait a few days and there will be an online simulator at this website. See the banner at the top of the page.

Thanks Ron!

That is great!

Now, anybody got a rack or two of ControLogix to give away?

Around here, about the only jobs in a 70 mile radius are 100% RS5000 or 5500, and ControLogix.

Ads wanting experienced panel assemblers for $6.00 are appearing. GEE, minimum wage is $6.50!

Are you serious about the advertised $6? That's criminal!?!?!

Yes, very serious. They e-mailed me and I thought it was a spoof, then I saw it on one of the job board sites.

Locally, a machinery manufacturer has no trouble getting $9 electricians. Most construction jobs are $8-9, unless you are with a union contractor. Some really good hotshot licensed plumbers are getting $12-14.

A "national" temp angency was advertising for electrical engineers down in bloomington (IL) for $14.50 an hour, and got several. A couple of switchgear companies near Peoria are looking for $30K engineers, and I am pretty sure they will get several.

I was talking to an Automation Supplier yesterday who was telling me that about 50% of the controls engineers he has know in the last 10 years have left the field for steady employment.

Today I heard on the radio that the average worker today will have 14 jobs and 4 career changes in his 45 year working career.

WARNING Many companies in Cental Illinois will bring people in for a competetive wage, or sometimes better then average. In many cases, after you have started, you are given a feeble excuse and a major wage cut. Some local companies will do this after you have given notice, but not started the new job yet.

I had one contract house ask me three days running if I had given notice yet, The fourth time they asked, I said yes, and they promptly offered me the wage reduction as the customer had a budget cut. Since I had not actually given notice yet, I was not in any danger where I was working. I called the new customer, and asked them about it. Thety later contacted me and thanked me, subsequently dumping that contract house, which is still a big player in Chicago and Northern Illinois.

Life in the cornfields.....

I here things are booming in Arkansas!

Manpower currently has an electricians job listed in Peru IL for $18. This position has been advertised for over 2 years. It was once listed by a half dozen firms at once, and up to $24.

It was offered as a PLC Specialist job at $65K with uo to $20K in bonuses.

12 hour shifts, rotating day and night.

No applicants? How bout high turner over, or no job really there.

I see lots of jobs advertised for months and months. Surely, if thet did exist, they would be eventually filled.

One headhunter wanted me to go to Rockford for an interview. The customer had already told me that there were no openings, and wouldn't be any for weeks, maybe months. But they kept dvertising, and I got callls daily to go for an interview for a non-existant job.

Yes, age appears to be becoming a factor. I am glad that I can pass for several years younger. And I removed all my pre-1988 dates off my resume. Since I lost a ton of weight, I don't look old, fat, and tired anymore. Just EXHUASTED!

I get calls for names of entry level engineers at $60K a year. I know lots of guys who just got jobs at $40K, $45k, and $50K with experience. It was explained to me, Entry Level, 1-3 years experience,
23 to 26 years old. NOT 50+ !

Ahhhhh, progress!

Well that's a load of ****. Why such young pups these days? I mean, I'm a young pup (25 in a week) but I definetely work with some older guys who know their stuff inside and out.

I witnessed age discrimination with my father.

When he got out of the military when WW2 ended, he went to school and became a EE, and worked at it for 5 years until I showed up. He moved back to the hometown area, and joined the family construction business. After 19 years as a building contractor, and a brief argument with his son on a roof, he was stricken with a heart attack. Construction, 'specially hands on work was too much. After an exhuasting search (age 48-51) he returned to electrical engineering. He got an offer to run a home building company for a conglomerate, and returned to construction. When it shut down due to the economy, work was very scarce (age 60-62). Often he was flat out told that they wanted someone younger.

He was fortunate to have one of his former carpenters call him and give him a lead on an estimator/manager job, which he worked until age 66, really building up his social security benefits.

So, I am surprised, but shouldn't be, that I am getting some descrimination.

I have noticed, that if the wages are low, or the place is a real hole, or has high turn over, age doesn't matter!

To be 25 again. I don't remember if I can even remember 25.

Have a good one.....kc
