I am looking at a bakery oven that has been dismantled and in storage for unknown time, it was manufactured in 2012 so not that old. my gig is to try to extract the PLC & HMI applications and get this running. I am lucky to have the schematics and may be lucky enough to find the original application designed (its a long shot so maybe)

I am hoping someone can help me out with info on the following

  • Schneider (Modicon) Model # TM238LDDC24T PLC with I/O Expansion cards
  • Schneider Magelis HMI (part number to follow)
My questions for each are

  1. what software do i need to extract PLC program
  2. is the above available in a demo mode or licensed
  3. What interface lead is needed
  4. do i need original PLC application program to do the above
  5. what software do i need to extract HMI program
  6. is the above available in a demo mode or licensed
  7. What interface lead is needed
  8. do i need original HMI application program to do the above

as i have little experience with Modicon (I did modify a TSX PLC 16 years ago) I need some help.

Ring Schneider and ask for CK Lee - I am sure he can put you in the groove.
one of their PLC specialists. Know him very well.
He often contacts me about getting EDS files from other manufacturers.

Sydney mate - he is not well these days. Do not know how long he will keep going. Taking a stack of meds. Have known him a long time. If he cannot help he has a stack of people who can - the whole Schneider PLC team, engineers. support you cannot get to.
Level 1 support is numpties.
Level 2 can be sometimes useful.
Level 3 - get a phone call in 3 weeks for Germany or somewhere else in the world.
Encourage your local people and get phone numbers!!!!

It looks like that controller series isn't supported in the current software. It was programmed with SoMachine (which turned into Ecostruxure Machine Expert not to be confused with Ecostruxure Machine Expert Basic not to be confused with Ecostruxure Control Expert not to be confused with Ecostruxure Automation Expert). Believe it or not those are actually all current Schneider products for their different PLC's. I'm assuming some VP's son loves words with X because they are worth more points in Scrabble.

Anyway - you can find an older version of SoMachine here:

https://eref.se.com/ecat/browse.do?...duct&prd_id=SOMNACCZXSPAZZ&scp_id=WW_en&tab=1

It may or may not run under Windows 10, and I would only ever install it in a VM. It says it will run a few weeks in demo mode. I don't know what, if any, limitations there are in demo mode.

The Magelis is probably programmed with Vijeo Designer, but which version is the question. You'll want the part number off the back. If it starts with XBTG and not XBTGT you'll need older software. There are/were some versions of the Magelis screen that programmed with a version of SoMachine (that basically skinned Vijeo designer and broke lots of things), so you'll really want the full part number. A screen of that vintage probably does NOT have the application in a form you can upload unless some kind soul added a compact flash card so the screen could store the program.

many thanks for this detailed info, by the sounds of it its not worth the trouble trying to Re-commission it. assuming that the hardware is serviceable and boots up.

i was told today its been years since it was powered up, so if it has a battery for program its probably flat and memory lost.

I will advise my client it's due for a electrical redesign as sounds like

its totally unsupportable.

Adding to the above, if the PLC & HMI still has a program i.e. either on flash or battery still holding the applications it is highly likely that the OEM probably password protected the applications or no source code stored (do not use schnieder so have no idea what is required for upload) so probably not worth buying any software anyway.

Thanks Parky
