Hello everyone,

I have a customer that has a small network 5/03 and 5/04 setup with an AIC's, they were using this with an older pc and the PIC driver, now I think they are using SP3 and it will no longer work

What other ways can they tap in? what is the part number for the device for the DH+ (not PCMK card) is it a KF? I thought this would be good as they would not be moving around and its cheaper.

I have also sent him the link to the AIC

my customer said:
What they have on site is a 5/04, a 1747-AIC and a 1761-NET-AIC.

The DH485 port of the CPU is not connected to anything but the RS232 port is connected to the 1761-NET-AIC. The RS485 port connects to the 1741 which then connects to a 5/03 of another machine.

My laptop is equipped with a comm. Port and I have in the past connected to the 1747-NET using a 1747-CP3 cable but using the PIC driver, since rebuilding my pc I cannot connect using this method as I get a PIC driver error. From the information I have read this seems to be a problem with Windows XP.

I have tried connecting directly to the RS232 port of the CPU using DF1 but cannot resolve the setting using the same cable, I’ve tried the cable on other devices within the factory and the cable and DF1 driver works fine (5/03)

Please excuse my limited ability to offer further information I work on Siemens PLCs 95% of the time, so my knowledge of Allen Bradley is a little limited

Thanks for any and all help

Mark

HMMM? I'm confused you know all of this, but here's some info.
Or did I misread your post.

There is a USB to DH+ converter 1784-U2DHP. (see link)

http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/in/1784-in045_-en-p.pdf

Why not the 1747-UIC (USB to DH485). see link

http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/in/1747-in063_-en-p.pdf

The older 1770-KF2 ( DF1 to DH+ converter)see link

And the serenum.sys fix for SP3 (see link)

Thanks Mickey....

I have never used an AIC so I was not sure how to interface with it, I looked on the AIC manual but I only saw the 5/03's

The 1770-KF2 is what I was looking for, I think all of your links should help them, I pointed them to PLCTalk

It also looks like the .sys will only fix older PC's ? http://www.plctalk.net/qanda/showpost.php?p=349574&postcount=10

Thanks again

The description they gave you is ambiguous; it includes contradictory information about which port on which controller is connected to which interface device.

I can guess that what they really need is to participate in the DH485 network with their PC.

In that case, the best device is the 1747-UIC, USB to DH485 interface.

Thanks Eddie,

I think they thought that DH and DH+ could/were be the same... anyway they have read the thread and with Mickey's links I think they have a plan.

Thanks again
Mark
