Hi all,
First of all thanks for giving time to read this thread. I wanna go online with processor SLC5/04 via Ethernet. It does not have Ethernet port but has got one DF1. I am using a gateway so called 1761-NET-ENI/A to change the protocol from DF1 to Ethernet.

Has anyone done it before? I do not know how to configure this gateway and RS linx to reach the PLC via Ethernet.

Here is a link to the manual:
https://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/um/1761-um006_-en-p.pdf

4-1 in the manual: There is a configuration utility that works over serial or ethernet, whichever is easiest for you. Then you can add the IP address in RSLinx and it should show up as a tree with your serial network underneath of it.

If the device is already set up and configured, you will need to get the IP address of the gateway and add it in RSLinx in order to get it to work.

My 2 cents: Stay away from the 1761-NET-ENI We have had 2 times where some kind of spike ran in on our network and "KILLED" several of the ENI modules. This spike or whatever did not affect any Micro800, ML1400 or CompactLogix processor, but took out the ENI modules. We had 16 of them at one time and eliminating them by replacing them with ML1400 processors.

If you can, I would suggest replacing the SLC-504 with a MIcro800, ML1400 or CompactLogix if you need more I/O. You'll be much happier in the long run. The ML1400 is the easiest to transfer as it uses RSLogix 500 - just change the processor and reassign I/O addresses and run. The others would require some programming.

Also, the ENI is obsolete and no longer available from Rockwell. Prosoft makes the PLX51-DF1-ENI (https://www.prosoft-technology.com/Landing-Pages/1761-net-eni-Replacement) and Real Time Automation is making the 515RTAENI-N34-DW (https://www.rtautomation.com/product/515rtaeni-n34/) as replacements but they are pricey. ($700-$1500 US)

I appreciate your suggestion. I have already started replacing the SLC5/04 with MicroLogix 1400. My company did not approve the purchase request for 1761ENT card.
Thank you very much

We make one thats cheap :) and works great... for 370.00 https://www.plccable.com/allen-brad...s-b-aftermarket-replacement-ethernet-for-df1/

Ours does not have a web page built in but if your looking to convert a SLC or MicroLogix to Ethernet.... its a great less expensive option

We also offer setup included in the price so if you provide the static IP address its a plug and play :)

I have probably worked on machines with over a dozen NET-ENI's without ever replacing a single one.

Also, I have 3 NET-ENI's on my home automation system for messaging between the main SLC5/05 and a 5/04 and 2 5/03's {plus a ML1400}, along with 3 AdvancedHMI setups reading and writing to them, and I haven't ever had any issue with.

They are getting pricey on eBay so if I do need to replace one I'll be calling GIT again.

EDIT: Just checked PLCCable and the link above is 404

Here is the current link for the NET-ENI replacement

The Net-Eni boards should be all be in the garbage can.

Yes, but a factory that has machines that are running is not going to spend thousands on each machine to bring the PLC up to date if it doesn't improve the operation of the machine.

I work on a lot of machines with PLC5's, a couple with PLC2's in them and still have customers with SLC150's I have to keep an old IBM XP laptop with the software & adapter just for those. The only thing I haven't come across is a PLC3.

I used to use them, long long time ago, we used to have lots of SLC 5/03 and 5/04 all over the plant (1999 - 2003). The problem was that without any reason they got frozen and we needed to restart their power supplies, Allen Bradley said that there was a firmware problem but we never had a solution. AB distributor here in Colombia offered to exchange all those SLCs to 5/05 at a low cost, we were pleased and accepted. I was very happy to use my sledge hammer and pulverized all those net-eni boards , that´s the reason I do not like them.
I know that today 5/05´s are so expensive, but RTA Automation offers a nice modules to interface SLCs to ethernet and avoid net-eni boards.
When SLC became obsolete we decided to replaced all of them with compact logix ,and we began using those SLC to teach our technicians.
We have a phrase here in spanish, I do not know exactly how to translate it to english , but here it goes anyway:
"A lo unico viejo que se le puede gastar dinero es a la mama de uno"
