What is a male db9 cable 2-2 3-3 7-7 8-8

I wonder if there is any chance that is the cable for a serial connection between
a laptop serial port and a PLC-25/5 . . .

Usually pin 5 is ground/return on a traditional serial connection.
If this is a serial connection then I don’t think it’s going to work without pin 5.

Sounds like it's not an RS232 cable.

Maybe RS422?

By any chance . . .

Allen Bradley antique PLC . . . PLC 5/15 . . . (Not the 5/25)

It has a Data Highway Bus female DB9 type connector .

My laptop has an RS232 DB9 female type connector.
Once upon a time I swear I had a serial cable, male DB9 on both ends and
it enabled my laptop to communicate with the PLC 5/15 using RSLinx.
(It went for a walk about the same time a former co-worker went to California.)

Is there any chance that might be it?
(Or does anyone know of such a beast and what the pinout might be?)

Poet.

DH only uses 2 wires. The PLC-5 family also supports serial comms. A PC serial port only supports RS232.

Will the DH+ network work without the "Drain" (third wire) ? I don't know.

PLC5 enhance processors have a serial port(25 pin) . The PLC5 classic (PLC5/10,5/15,5/25) do not have a serial port.

See picture for the 9-pin DH+ port pin-out

Did you have a PCMK card?
Did you have a KF2 box?

Your laptop serial port is not going to connect directly to a DH+ port and work.

Dear Mickey,
Many Thanks for the diagram. I'm not 'brave enough' to try building a new serial
cable for this.

I do have the PCMK card with the funky little cable connector enabling an antique
laptop to interface with the PLC-5/15. (And the appropriate cable.)

But I know I once had a serial cable, male DB-9 on both ends which enabled me
to access the PLC. And it is driving me crazy that I can't find anything documenting
the beast.
Thanks, Poet.

If you don’t know what it’s for then either throw it away, take it apart for spare parts, or label it and put it in your junk pile.

Move on.
