We are currently haveing an issue with static on our line. We make a paper product that gets cut and as it passes out of the saw house it picks up static and causes the top layer to lift up. How do you elmiate this static??

A real easy thing to do when paper is involved is to add humidity with humidifiers or misters.

If it is paper products, misters won't be as good a choice as the humidifiers. I find that information given by pc_geek to be pretty intersting, esp on EXAIR products. It looks very costly too!

Tinsel

Have you tried using metallic tinsel over the top of your product?

Pass the tinsel over the product so it lightly touches. With it connected to a ground source, such as your earthed frame, static is picked up and neutralised. Cheap and quick as an interim method.

I'm sure you can experiment with other conductors if you have no tinsel to hand.

I work with rubber coated wire products which build up huge amounts of static. We use metal brushes that are grounded and touch the surface of our conveyors and product. They are simple and cheap. Ours are made of brass, but still do a good job in our application without scratching the surfaces too much. We get them from a company called Akron Brush according to my storeroom catalog.

They make a variety of anti-static units but tinsel is cheap and works good if the system allows room to use it.

You can also look for static cord or static brushes. These are called passive static eliminators. If the process is too confining or static builds up too much then you may need an Active or long range static eliminator.

In most cases your existing ink or paper supplier can offer an anti-static product.
