Hi guys,

Some pointers needed:

Having PC with WIN7 pro X64 and Amsamotion clone of 6ES7 972-0CB20-0XA0 cable and need to backup VIPA cpu 315sb 2ag12 PLC

Manual says that it needs to be configured as SIEMENS ("The CPU is configured as CPU 318-2 (6ES7 318-2AJ00-0AB0/V3.0) from
Siemens.")

Ok. Now..

1. Which software to download for the job ? (Win7 pro X64 remember ? )
(I stuck with x64 usb drivers for interface allready - no drivers)

2. Any pointers welcome.

VIPA with Siemens TIA - yikes !
I dont think that the 6ES7972-0CB20-0XA0 will work. AFAIK only Siemens software knows how to connect to the PC Adapter with USB interface.
Then on the other hand, I dont know of anyone that has made a clone of the PC Adapter with USB interface. There are plente of clones of PC Adapter with serial interface though. Are you sure it is not a PC Adapter clone with serial interface ?
Anyway, forget the PC Adapter, the VIPA CPU 315-2AG12 has an integrated ethernet interface. You use that to go online, I believe you must setup a project with a 318-2DP plus CP343-1.
But...
The manual says you must have good knowledge of Siemens S7 already.
And... there is a risk that TIA wont play well with the VIPA CPU.

Thnx for your reply.
You are most certainly right.. it is somekind of usb to serial - since first autoinstalled drivers are some FTDI 232 .. or prolific or something..
I described it (possible wrongly) purely due to fact that I insert one side to usb and other (DB9) to plc

And since I am not fully familliar with protocols here - I thought that that is some multiprotocol dongle interface..

Nevertheless I have some SIEMENS S7 plc on disposition and I'll try it there prior to VIPA.

I will download and install tia potal 14.1 then try to establish communication through dongle interface..

If you want to use the PC Adapter clone, you probably have to select the interface serial PC Adapter and specify the virtual COM port. But that is assuming that it is supported by TIA, and that would surprise me.
Go for the ethernet connection instead of the PC adapter.
And if I had the choice I would use STEP7 V5 (aka "Classic") instead of TIA.

Hm.. This Siemens are hard to grasp.

So.. I buy let's say this interface :

And I can't use it with most recent SIEMENS PG software ?

And it's difficult to separate TIA from rest of the stuff ..

Is this TIA I'm downloading or Step 7 ?

I don't remember exactely but I wanted TIA 14 and ended up on STEP 7 14.x

The picture you posted is the Siemens PC Adapter USB A2, not a clone.
I believe you can use it with TIA.

If you have STEP7 V14, then you also have TIA V14.
It is called TIA Portal because within TIA you can have several programs. Fopr example STEP7 and WinCC.

Still, I cannot say if there might be a hitch when running TIA with a VIPA.

I think the Trial STEP7 Professional is the right package for you.
Not sure what goes wrong for you.
I notice that it says you have 4 GB RAM, is that correct ?
I would not run TIA on anything less than 16 GB.

Good spot. I noticed it also. I thought that I have 8GB

That's some old T440p which will be used as PG.
480 SSD and 32GB will bi fitted.

But still think that install should went through..

I'll try to solve it out..

Now (off course) needed CPU/PLC is NOT on the supported list..

(JUST to keep you guys updated)

Please do always use the CPU 318-2 (6ES7 318-2AJ00-0AB0/V3.0) from
Siemens of the hardware catalog to project this CPU from VIPA.
For the project engineering, a thorough knowledge of the Siemens
SIMATIC Manager and the hardware configurator from Siemens is
required!

They'll usually approve you eventually, but it can take a couple days under normal circumstances. I wouldn't be surprised to hear it take longer these days.

Essentially, due to legal restrictions, companies need to prove they are not distributing certain kinds of software to embargoed coutries (like North Korea), terrorist organizations, etc. If you're receiving the software because you bought it and have a business relationship with them, that is typically pretty easy to verify. If you're just some random guy from the internet with a free account, it takes longer before they decide that you're unlikely to get them in trouble.

If you had read either the readme or the release documents link at the v5.6 trial software download site, you would have seen that it supports:

MS Windows 7 (64bit) Professional, Enterprise with SP1

(to be fair, the documents are slightly different. The other also lists Ultimate as an option)
