how to power SLC 5/04 using other power supply

Hello,

I have a little problem. I have a SLC 5/04 and the power supply 1746-P2 used with 4 slot chassis. The power supply is broken and I want use other supply. Where I can find the wiring of the chassis with the power supply? It is possible to use other power source?

You want to open up the power supply and use multiple external power supplies to give the backplane the power it needs? Or do you just want to remove the 1746-P2 and put a new 1746-P2 in its place?

Yes, I want to give the backplane the power it needs. The 1746-P2 is burned and I don't have money to buy another one.

Not an answer to your question because I personally wouldn't attempt to do that but here is an alternative to buying a new power supply.

I recall measuring 3 different voltages at the right edge of a backplane in order to prove a power supply was okay, and the backplane suspect. We butchered a digital card and dangled test leads from it.

IIRC, we found print on boards or in a book to identify the connections at the backplane, which I suppose could be followed back to the left edge connector.

I would expect this has been done before.

The power supply was designed FOR the SLC, and doesn't only provide power, but also provides signals to the backplane that it is powering-up. This is used to reset the modules.

Without the proper signalling, you may have troubles when powering up the system

The SLC power supplies are also very tolerant of mains voltage fluctuations, and brown-outs.
