Omron CP1L

If your input is coming in at 500Hz you should just use a regular input to do the counting. Your scan time of the PLC will be under 1msec.
I don't think that's a good idea. It is relatively easy to get a CPIL program up to 3-4 ms scan time.
The CP1L already has built in high speed counter inputs so why not just use them??

The program is not developed yet. I would develop the program with a regular input. If the speed is too quick for the input then program the high speed counter.
In the meantime, you have all of the logic programmed and tested.
