So for the last couple of days I've been trying to get an Automation Direct Click PLC to connect to Wonderware Intouch Machine Edition to no avail. I'm a student of Tim Callinan, who pointed me to this forum. I am working with him on a mechatronics trainer for high schools and community colleges. Our next step is to get it running with an HMI or SCADA software.

The Click PLC uses the Modbus RTU protocol over Ethernet and will connect to the Click Programming Software, but for the life of me I can't get it to connect to Wonderware.

I've tried all of the MODBUS drivers they offer and when I go to connect and type in the target station host IP (the IP address of the CLICK PLC) is gives me the Error Code: 10061 (failure to connect). I've setup the MODBUS setting to the correct IP and port (502) and still nothing. o_O

I've scoured the intouch knowledge base and still've got nothing đź“š

Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong or pointers in the right direction would be super helpful.

Have you tried their Automation Direct IO Server?

I was hoping to not have to purchase additional software to get this PLC running with Wondershare Intouch. Since I am communicating over ethernet and know the protocol (MODBUS RTU over ethernet) I was hoping to connect directly and then use the bit addresses I have to communicate with the PLC.

You should be using Modbus TCP on the WonderWare Intouch. The Click will be a Server (Slave) and shouldn't require any ladder. If the Click were the Client (Master) it would need ladder.

Hi Phrog, Mike and Archie,
Thank you for the assistance. We're getting a little pressure to look at Wonderware first before we check out advanced HMI. We spoke to Automation direct tech support and they turned us onto ModbusPoll. Modbus communication from Modbus Poll to the Click PLC is fine - no problems there. The issue is we are doing something wrong with Wonderware.
We made a video here.

Thank you,

Hey guys,

Can you confirm that you've set up the DASMBTCP driver in System Management Console and gone through all the configuration?

edit: noticed you said you're running Machine Edition. Not sure if SMC is used in that case, I've only developed in Archestra.

I've tried to connect both with and without the DASMTCP Server Activated.
Here are the setting I'm using.
Node Type: TCPIP_PORT with Port Number: 502

Ah OK I see something that you should try. Instead of creating a ModbusPLC object under your TCP Port, create a ModbusBridge. The Network address under the ModbusBridge is going to be your PLC. Then under the ModbusBridge, create a ModbusPLCRS Object. The address of that object will be 1. Finally, make sure you have set up your Device Group name and update interval for the ModbusPLCRS object.

This is exactly how I get Scadapacks to take to Wonderware via ModbusTCP. Here's some images to guide you through (check the links, trying to resize multiple images in the forum is a huge pain). Finally, I include how I set up my Access Name in InTouch.
