Can someone suggest which all are the basic topics an automation engineer should be thorough before starting his career.
For ex: Control Panel Components and Wiring, Ladder Logic Program development,,,, like that what all comes under the study topics of an automation engineer

BEFORE all that: start with electric circuitry, motors, pneumatics, hydraulics and so on.
ONLY when you understand what you will be controlling and how it functions you can start with the control side of things.
DON'T be tempted to take any shortcuts.

Kind regards,

Goody, first of all: I didn't mention English grammar, so forgive me if I made a mistake

But then the defence states that native English speakers make mistakes too ! :ROFLMAO:

Secondly, I did mean short-cuts (concerning the learning path), but short-circuits should indeed also be avoided as much as possible

Kind regards,

In my opinion a good familiarity with basic physics and mechanical concepts, a bit of trig, torque and other rotary motion.

Electrical - a good understanding of Ohm Law and basic electrical.

I see too many posts where the person does not have this knowledge.

One cannot be a master at all this especially from a design aspect. However one can have enough understanding to come up with a rough set of calcs and design and not sound like a total idiot when he takes it to a qualified specialist engineer like Peter Nachtway.

Thanks friends for the reply. I have just started my career in this field. The main problem am facing now is the lack of good understanding in basic electrical engineering. Can someone suggest some simple study material pdf's for me..Your help would be so much appreciated..Thanks in advance..

Learning databases, how networks work and some basic programming skills is useful. IT is everywhere in automation.

Start with a basic physics text - the kind they use for Physics 101 for Liberal Arts students or high school seniors. It will give you a grounding in all of the items jvdcande mentioned plus some mechanics, thermodynamics, optics, and plain old logical cause-effect thinking.
