What do you guys/gals think about something like that as a project for the spring time of 2019?

Included is a rough sketch and some of the equipment I intend to use. On the sketch I wish there was a way to calculate the pull on the cable on both ends to make sure the linear drive can handle it. I have asked a “terex” hoist rep., and he has no clue how to calculate this. There is some detail on the sketch.

Hopefully this is an excellent project, especially for my grandkids. Through testing will be done before they try it.

Not sure if a plc will be used yet.

From your sketch, I think the weight of the cable needs to be added to the weight of your grand-kids.

I've got something wrong here. The more sag you have, the more tension there is .. is not correct. And I didn't know where to put the pre-tension. I'm an electrical guy. This mechanical stuff confuses me ;)

From experience towing stuff, I know that 200 lbs of side-load on a tense tow rope causes a *LOT* of pull on a vehicle. Perhaps someone can correct this sketch?

OK - picture does not show up. I get approx 51 times (the weight you put in the middle plus 1/2 the weight of the cable). But I don't know where to put the pre-load on the cable, or how it affects the tension.

Hows it going to work

I’ll be using digital servo motor and drive.
CONTROL TECHNIQUES EN-214 Drive (I have 3) and a en-4120 with brake motor (I have 4).

Power Tools FM ver 4.2 software.

I have already done a sawmill setworks simulation and was impressed with the software.

Using a thumb wheel to select program 0-9 depending how fast you want to go.

With the drive lowered, have a seat, select the ride, push go.

Just remember,

In case you have a specific grandkid in mind to test this with - run a few tests with a gunny sack that weighs more than the heaviest child that will use it.
