Hello Friends

I need to install 4 Slave PLC and 1 Master.

The slave PLC will send some bits and integers to the master PLC.

The Master PLC will receive this data and will show in an HMI, and maybe also i will use a message display to show some messages.

Is ML1100 enough to do that through Ethernet IP messaging??

According with the specs:

Micrologix 1100: EtherNet/IP messaging only
Micrologix 1400: EtherNet/IP messaging, DNP3 over IP and Modbus TCP/IP

What do you recommend?

Thanks in advance.:)

Communications wise I don’t see any reason to go with the 1400 however I’d look at other specs to make sure the 1100 will do the job.

The main differences between the ML1400 and M1100:
ML1400 has two serial ports and and ethenet port.
ML1100 has one serial port and and ethenet port.
The ML1400 can house up to 7 expansion cards.
The ML1100 can house up to 4 expansion cards.

They can talk to each other just fine. We often use the 1100 when the I/O requirements are very low and we don't need two different serial protocols. The extra serial port on the 1400 is nice because it has a DB9 connector. The CH0 serial port on both processors uses the little round 8 pin connector and is a bit more trouble to use with 3rd party devices.

Thanks for your fast response.

The input/output is not a problem, I think i will go with ML1100. Maybe a ML1400 for the Master to approach the DB9 port.

Another question:

Could be the 5 PLC´s in different IP range?

For example:

Master: 192.168.1.10

Slave1: 192.168.10.5

Slave2: 192.168.20.5

Slave3: 192.168.30.5

Slave4: 192.168.40.5

Is it possible?

Or should be the 5 PLC´s in the same IP range?

Master: 192.168.1.10

Slave1: 192.168.1.15

Slave2: 192.168.1.25

Slave3: 192.168.1.35

Slave4: 192.168.1.45

Thanks :)

That all depends on your network subnet mask. But usually it is best to keep them on the same range, as you call it.
