Siemens dextop based HMI

TIA Portal allows you to set up web pages in the PLC, then you don't need an HMI just a web browser on your computer. Takes a bit of fiddling but isn't too bad, you might have to study up on HTML.

Siemens also has the option of WinCC RT Advanced, which is basically a Basic or Comfort panel transported to computer. Programming and designing screens works exactly like for the normal touch panels (with the same limitations also).

Besides the separate runtime license, it also requires the Tia Portal WinCC Advanced development license.

If you have TIA you can simulate the screen on your desktop. You will get a frequent pop up. If you want this without the popups, you will need the RT Advanced license.

If your PLC is 1200/1500, you could try the AdvancedHMI software over ModBUS.
