I have several HMI's in the plant running different versions of Wonderware InTouch, all runtime only licenses. I have a V9 and two V10.1, all created from outside contractors.

I just purchased Dev Studio 2012 R2 version 10.6 to be able to update and modify the current HMIs but I just hit a road bump because it seems I would need to upgrade them all to 10.6 in order to load the applications I created or modified. Huge cost to individually buy new licenses for each HMI.

I fear I know the answer to this, but is there a way to save the applications I develop or modify on my 10.6 version to be able to run on my 10.1 version of Intouch? What I am trying to avoid is paying the $3,000+ for an upgrade license from Wonderware.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Send back the 10.6 Dev package and purchase 10.1 and then you'd only have to upgrade the 9.x app.

Once a software vendor reaches market saturation with their product, the only way for them to continue to grow their business is to forcibly shove annual "upgrades" down the throats of their customers. It isn't just Wonderware. Microsoft and Rockwell are just as bad, if not worse.

What Bit Bucket said.

At least with Rockwell you can compile previous run time applications for ME, so that's something.

I feel like WW takes me to the cleaners every time I need something from them, another one of my irritations with them.

You can't roll the changes you made in 2012 back to v9 and v10.1.

Note you can use your Dev Studio 2012 to edit the older apps. Just replace the license file at the PC running the older version or Install VMware on your development pc and then install the older versions. PITA sorry..

Feel like I knew the answer before I asked it, but I was hoping someone had some tricks up their sleeves. Thanks for your replies.

And yes Paully, I am having that same feeling about WW as well, everything is so expensive and not really friendly. I would have taken a total different approach if I knew some of this stuff earlier. You live, you learn I guess.

I've been unhappy with Wonderware since it was purchased by Invensys. It's not a bad product, but I don't like the attitude of the company as much as when they were really "Wonderware".
