Interrogation voltage

Terry:

Are you suggesting that Interrogation Voltage is the the amount used by the CIA that is less lethal than that of the Electric Chair?

It is an odd term (I wonder what British school b_soumitra is from?). I've "interrogated" contacts, using a voltage - is this what is meant?

Interrogation Voltage is interpreted in different ways in different circles. It depends on the "application".

- Galvanic (the "Gee, I wonder what this will do to a frog's leg?" variety)
- Testicular (the persuasion variety)
- Shock Therapy (the temporarily corrective variety)
- The Chair (the irreversible, not necessarily correct, decision variety)

I suspect that he means...
"Examine if ON" as in "Is voltage present?"
"Examine if OFF" as in "Is voltage NOT present?"

YIKES! I gotta get out of this thread... my keepers are developing a keen interest!

Just as an FYI Terry's explanation fits as good.

The term "interrogation" is used in several areas pertaining to electronics and the definition for it is diverse in its application.

The dictionary (Computer Science) definition for interrogation is:To transmit a signal for setting off an appropriate response.

Using that definition I am sure most here could see many applications that it would/could be used in.

If an example is needed then do a web search for Ferroelectric Semiconductor memory.

Hello..Soumitra,

Interrogation Voltage may have different meanings to understand but in our region....

INTERROGATION VOLTAGE IS A TERM USED IN RELATION WITH DIGITAL INPUTS TO PLC. NORMALLY WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENS IN A FIELD,i.e ACTUATION OF A HARDWARE CONTACT TO GET CLOSED OR ACTUATION OF A CLOSE CONTACT TO BECOME OPEN. THESE CONTACT MAY BE LOCATED IN FIELD, MOTOR CONTROL CENTRES, LIMIT SWITCHES ETC...

NOW THE POWER SUPPLY UNIT INTERROGATES THE CONDITION OF THESE HARDWARE CONTACTS (CLOSE/OPEN) BY SENDING A INTERROGATION VOLTAGE & TRYING TO RECEIVE IT BACK.....SO PLC COMES TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN THE FIELD BY MEANS OF THIS INTERROGATION VOLTAGE & I/O CARD.

I hope i am clear....
