I have a customer who wants to start using the AB Stratix 5700 Switch (instead of what we now supply them) because of an AB HMI faceplate available for it. I was asked to find out if we could supply a similar "Faceplate" for the N-Tron 700 series of Switches. They use PV+ 6 Model 1000 with Windows CE.
Does anyone know:
1. what data this "Faceplate" has?
2. what protocol is used to talk from HMI to Switch?
3. would this HMI also be able to access "web published" data from a switch?
4. where does this "Faceplate" come from?
5. Are the faceplates 'standard' or custom made?

Is this just another way to describe the setup interface for the 5700 that is accessed through a web browser? All of the configurations as well as the switch's status is available simply through a web browser like IE, which can also probably be done through a PV+6 running Windows CE, though I do not have any at my plants so I have not tried it personally.

No, but if the PV+6 can access data that way there is no reason why we can't do the same from the N-Tron. I need to try finding a way to test or verify this.
Here is what we got back from our customer, however the pdf link references a Stratix 6000 & 8000 not the 5700.
You can go to http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/wp/enet-wp008_-en-e.pdf for some information on the Faceplates.

I am looking at a 5700 brochure and it indicates that the 5700 does support Ethernet/IP CIP interface and has FTView faceplates for status monitoring and alarming. It appears to be a combination of Ethernet/IP and CIP protocol for communication, and there is an Add On Profile for the Stratix switches for RS5000 that allows you to basically put all of the status information you can get from the web browser programming interface for the switch on a PV+6 monitor (maybe PVPlus as well) to monitor your network traffic and port statuses. The faceplates appear to be standard for each switch type.

The programming of the switch probably still needs to be done from a web browser, or should be at least.

I am glad you brought this up, I have a 5700 running a small plant network and a PV1000 (not +6) that I may try to add this faceplate to.

Basically to do this with the N-Tron either you or N-Tron would need to create an Add On Profile, or the equivalent logic in 5000, to send the switch information to the PV. I am sure it can be done, maybe N-Tron has already done something similar? Many manufacturers of equipment have made their own AOPs for 5000 software so their equipment can easily integrate with Allen Bradley's

N-Tron has a CIP interface (See this link) also which does line up with RS 5000 but I do not know enough about RS 5000 or CIP to determine if and/or how this could be used to build a custom "Faceplate" for a PV+.
I have this question in to Red Lion too and will send them here to read this. Thank you.

Ask him if he has talked w/Rockwell about all the firmware issues they have been having with the 5700.

We have had nothing but problems with the 5700 in their Centerline MCC's. Said the latest firmware fixes all the issues....who wants to be a beta tester?!?!?

To close this one, this is what I received from Red Lion:
The CIP toolkit has premade faceplates for all of the switches we sell if that is what they are looking for. So there should be no need to build anything that I know of.
The directories in the install kit have the files to import to get the faceplates. The instructions are pretty easy to follow according to customer input. Looking at the AB document, we seem to offer pretty much the same functionality.
The install kit they attached is an older version. Here are the current revisions

Looks like we are good to go, just need to "sell" this to our customer now. I guess that if they are "Competent - Good" programming the PanelView it will be easy. :)

Could you elaborate a bit on the problems you have had, I only have one running now but will have 3-4 by mid 2015.

Thanks

Ports won't keep their configurations, won't auto-negotiate to some devices, had to use cross-over cable to link the switches...

3 Rockwell locations manufacture their MCC's, yet they had 5 different passwords for switch configurations..

There things I'm forgetting, it's been a struggle. Rockwell was in last week and told use they have all the issue corrected in the latest firmware, so if you don't have it definitely update it.

We typically provide N-tron switches, but the customer wanted Centerline MCC's on ethernet, so you get the stratix.

Hello

I have a ArmorStratix 5700 24 port switch and it's plugged into Guardlogix 5570 controller. I am using AB_Stratix_5700 v3.0 AOI and panelview plus 1250 to display info. about the switch on the HMI faceplate. everytime I enable the AOI it faults out.
attached are some screenshots of error code, tags, and rung.please advise

@Yadvinder

Firs off, you have very old version of the faceplate. It was redesigned completely since V3.

Most likely is that your firmware is too old to support CIP messages or CIP is not enabled.
I recommend that you use the latest version of the Firmware, Enable CIP, and then you the current version of AOI and Graphics.
