Kuhnke PLC Comms

I have an old Kuhnke 657 PLC in a machine. It has an HMI which we would like to replace with a C-More. Does anyone know what comm protocol this PLC uses?

I would contact Kuhnke to see if they have any specification sheets on the obsolete controller.

It's all cards. The comm cable plugs right into the CPU card.

Do you have a part number and manufacture of the HMI that is on it? that maybe an easier way to find out what its communicating now

The electrical drawings say "SMA BE 11/40"
I googled it but nothing came up

I emailed Kuhnke asking about obtaining the software for this. The only answer I got was "Sorry this product is obsolete. Please GOOGLE KUHNKE 657". Really? How do they think I got their contact information?
Anyway, does anyone here know how I might get the software?
