Different PC adapter and PC/PPi cable

Dear all
I know PC adapter use to download S7 300/400 with MPI/Profibus port, PPi for US S7-200, but i don't know PPI is different PC Adapter?, PPI only is RS232/485 converter, PC adapter have layer two of MPI/Profibus protocol?.
