O.T. I need a timer relay

Genius in Training > Why do you need a power supply, do you have 24vdc in the cabinet ?

No sir.
The panel is fed with 480 Vac . . and a transformer steps it down to 120 Vac.
All the logic is relays and all of it is 120 Vac.

That Omron programmable relay looks promising. I'll look more deeply into it.
Thanks, Poet.

Mendonsy > Here's a similar but less expensive alternative to the Omron.

I have had good luck with using them for small projects.

Many Thanks.
This one looks promising . . . but the height with mounting feet is 10.6 cm . . just a touch
too tall. without the mounting feet (DIN rail mount) is 9 cm - tight. I need to take a second look inside the panel and see if there is not someplace with more room.
Thanks guys, Poet.

Still researching into what I might do, what is available . . .
I'm looking at removing the timer right below my problem
child, and using an OMRON Programmable relay.

The ZEN-10C1AR-A-V2 to be exact.

120 Vac to power it. Can take 120 VAC on the inputs, 6 inputs, and four relay outputs.

Anybody have any idea how much longer they will be around?

And, there is a kit - ZEN-KIT01-EV4 240978 which sounds promising.
Says it comes with the CPU, cable, software, and a manual.

If the boss is agreeable I'll see about getting one kit. Once I figure everything
out I can install one, then order five more of just the CPU's.
Thanks,
Poet.

Update.
The Boss bought me a ZEN-10C1AR-A-V2.
It is a nice little box. He also got me programming software and an interface cable.
I installed the program on another computer, Windows 7, and it installed nicely.
Very easy to use, and pretty limited. It may be because the thing is also designed so
one can program it from the front panel.

It limits me to three contacts and one coil per rung. The Timer relays have
several different modes - including TON, TOFF, and one shot. My current plan has me using one One Shot, and two TOF's.

A co-worker reminded me that I need to change 'main chain' to spur chain.
If the gods smile upon me I will have the ladder and a look at the Omron
software window. (Double click the timer contact and I get an 'Edit contact
Dialog Box' where I can select what type contact, timer, and timer parameters.)

Update.
The above ladder logic is all wrong. I've learned that I have to trigger the coil for
the timer before I can use the timer contacts. The timer parameters (and choice
for which type of timer) is done via a parameter screen at the contact.

This little Omron ZEN-10C1AR-A-V2 is just too cool. One could program it via the
front panel, but the programming software is so much nicer.

From the little display one can monitor the inputs and outputs. Monitor two (adjacent)
rungs of the ladder logic. Or display messages. It has a date time clock and the
manual says it can be programmed to turn things on or off at set dates / times.

The software also has a built in simulator. Works very nicely.

Learning curve? If one is already familiar with PLC ladder logic there almost isn't one.
Just way easy, and the manual (in pdf) is adequate.

I've written the program. (Ladder logic). I built up a switch box with toggle switches,
one pushbutton, and lights for the outputs. Works nicely. Now I want to study it
a bit more, and test that the relay retains program through power shutdowns.

Then comes the install.

Good work.........I have used plenty of smart relays for exactly this type of application. They are all the same foot print and your Omron program looks identical to the Moellor and Zelio I have used.

Success !

I haven't found a big enough time block to try replacing the TR-2 . . .
But we had another timer go bad - and the Boss says we can't buy that
type anymore. So, another little Omron Zen. Easier project.

First picture should be the Zen installed. The second is a picture of the
timer I replaced.
