Hello everyone, I need to adjust some timers online with a SLC503 that has both channels used. Channel 0 is configured for RS422 and is connected to four Allen Bradley Drivers and Channel 1 configured for DH485 and is connected through a 1747-PIC to a HMI VersaView 1500. This leaves me with no programming port to connect to.

I want to replace the 1747-PIC with a 1761-NET-AIC. This will add an open serial port for programming.

Below is a list of cables and connections to the AIC+ Module:
Port 1: This is the bottom port on the AIC, 9 pin D-shell, Null Modem cable #1747-CP3.
Port 2: This is the top right side port on the AIC, 8 pin mini din, Null Modem cable #1761-CBL-PM02.
Port 3: This is the top left side port on the AIC, 6 pin phoenix connector, cable #1761-AS09.

With the 1747-PIC disconnected, I connected the 1761-AIC port 1 to my laptop, programming port. Next I connected port 3 to the SLC503 to Channel 1, DH485. I was able to connect to the SLC503 and upload the program.

The issue I'm having is when I connect port 2 to the HMI, the communication to the SLC503 fails/'X's-out in red in RSLinx but the communication to the HMI from the SLC503 is good and equipment runs with no issues. After considerable thought I now believe I have an issue with a duplicate node between RSLinx and the HMI both configured for node 0. I'm no longer in the plant so can't test. The AIC had no-fault indication and looks like it was communicating properly. When I tried to reconnect to the SLC503 the HMI froze and I had to reconnect the 1747-PIC. My question is how can the communication connection between the HMI and the SLC503 work if it is a duplicate node?

Node assignments: Work Station Node 0 - Known, HMI Node 0 - Assumed, SLC503 Node 1 - Known.

I do not have the HMI application to check node assignment.

Also, is it possible to program the SLC503 through the second serial port on the VersaView 1500? Do the serial ports interconnect somehow?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Your problem is definitely duplicate node addresses.

The easiest would be the change the work station (RSLinx).

Also, is it possible to program the SLC503 through the second serial port on the VersaView 1500?

I am not familiar with your HMI, so no help there.

FYI, channel 0 on a SLC5/03 cannot be configured for RS422, most likely DH485 if connected to 4 drives. Take a look at the channel's configuration in it's program.

I checked channel 0 configuration, set for DF1 Full Duplex which I believe is default.

HMMM?

You said..

Channel 0 is configured for RS422 and is connected to four Allen Bradley Drivers

DF1 Full Duplex is peer to peer communication how can it talk to 4 different devices? Or am I missing something here?

Mickey...I just got the drawings for the equipment this week and hadn't looked at the serial port section. There is a RS232 to RS422/485 converter model #485LDRC between channel 0 and the servo drivers.
