I have 3 identical machines that the manufacture built with the same IP address . I would like to install a HMI to gather information from all 3 ControlLogix PLC's . I don't want to change any IP addresses , because there are devices looking for those connections . The IP address is 192.168.1.148 on all 3 machines. My question is , what is the best way to bring those same IP addresses into one HMI , and be able use the tags .

You'll need some sort of NAT device. A lot of managed switches can do this, or else I believe AB make a standalone unit - I would imagine you would need one per machine, as even though I believe they can handle multiple addresses each, the addresses would all have to be different. 9300-ENA or 1783-NATR are the two offerings, from memory one of them is an older design that has been basically superseded by the other, but I'm not sure which is which. I'm sure someone else will chime in on that.

I would use a Stratix 5700 with NAT capability. A 1783-BMS10CGN will do the job (or 1783-BMS20CGN if you want more ports).

Connect each machine network to a switchport on the 5700 with NAT mapping so that each machine gets translated to a range on a new network eg. 10.0.0.0.

Example:
HMI connected to one switchport as 10.0.0.10
Machine 1 gets translated to 10.0.0.20 - 29.
Machine 2 gets translated to 10.0.0.30 - 39.
Machine 3 gets translated to 10.0.0.40 - 49.

I have installed 1783-BMS10CGN and it works fine. It's really easy to set up, you have to write two tables, one for translating incoming traffic and other for outgoing data.

The only problem is that you will need 3 switches, one for each machine.

I did not realise this was a limitation when I made my post above but you are correct. I thought you could configure NAT per port on the 5700 but it looks like you can only have one NAT table between the uplink ports (G1/1 and G1/2) and the rest of the switch.

I'm not sure, but, you can configure three VLANs (one for each machine) and write a translation table for each machine... I'm not sure how VLANs works o_O

Thanks for all your help. So you say if I use the Stratix 5700 1783-BM with NAT capability ( What does NAT stand for ) I can change the identical IP Addresses to different IP's for each.

Example .....
Bagger 1 192.168.1.148 to 192.168.1.101
Bagger 2 192.168.1.148 to 192.168.1.102
Bagger 3. 192.168.1.148 to 192.168.1.103

Correct ?

Is there software to setup a Stratix managed switch ?

Thanks

No, you will need three switches to manage three diferent translations.

Bagger 1 192.168.1.148 to 192.168.1.101 in switch 1
Bagger 2 192.168.1.148 to 192.168.1.102 in switch 2
Bagger 3 192.168.1.148 to 192.168.1.103 in switch 3
192.168.1.101, 192.168.1.102, 192.168.1.103 in switch 4 (without NAT)

Notice, that if you connect three machines to the same switch (like your example) you will produce an Ethernet failure (three devices with the same IP in the same network).

The switch has a webpage where you can configure it.

Might want to do a price check on those Stratix switches before committing.

The 1783-NATR (for DLR networks) and the previously mentioned A-B 9300-ENA are meant for this very purpose and will be ~ 1/3 the price.

Paully's5.0, good tip !

Anybody else know "affordable" yet industrial grade 1-to-1 NAT Routers ?

This may depend on the level of pricing you get from Rockwell, but the e W 0 N Cosy 131 has a NAT feature and is cheaper than the 1783-NATR.
And then to boot you get remote internet access to those PLCs if you ever decide to go that route.

The prices I just received .........

1783-BMS10CGN $2,305.50
9300-ENA $1,230.00

So you say the 9300-ENA will do the same thing ? Is that easy to set up ?
About the same way as the 1783-BMS10CGN ?

What is the **** Cosy131. I did check the price , and they are much cheaper.

I would like to stick with an Allen Bradley product.

Thanks,

The Cosy 131 is a router designed for simple remote access.
With a 3 step wizard you can easily connect your machines to the internet without any IT/VPN work in your facility.
They have recently added the NAT1:1 feature and it is also a simple setup. I'm using it on one a site for an application similar to yours.
If it means anything to you, I believe they are a Rockwell Encompass Partner...

Get an HMI with three IP Addresses. Such as the GE QuickPanel+ 10", 12" and 15" units. Which has 2 Ethernet ports with unique IPs plus USB, add an Ethernet-to-USB adapter for the 3rd.
