Can you control a 527 through tags like the 525 and not use motion commands? I have tried the AOI, but wondering if I can get away from the motion commands all together. What I have found online would say 'NO', but I wanted to check with you guys.

Thanks,
Scott

I looked into this because I was curious. I have never used a PF527 I have worked with many 525's. It appears that based on KB Article: PowerFlex 527 drive: CIP Motion Configuration and Precaution 758322 | Date Created: 01/12/2016 | Last Updated: 01/12/2018

That only motion commands are available for you to use. I tried it myself and only get diagnostic type tags in controller tag list. So it looks like you are stuck with the motion commands. The above listed KB Article has some of the instructions shown and lots of links to other pages that should help you out.

The 527 is a 525 that accepts motion control codes. So if you need a 525, buy a 525.

The only functional exception is that the 527 can do STO via Ethernet to a Logix Safety PAC, whereas the 525 STO feature must have an external safety circuit.

527 has PLe STO hardwired and networked built in, 525 only has PLd.
525 has modbus.
527 has built in dual ethernet ports.
527 cannot do permanent magnet motors, but 525 can.

753 is probably a better solution if you want some of the 527 features without motion commands.
