I have a few previous PLCs that are installed which say they are Micrologix 1100 Series A PLCs but does this mean they are 1763-L16AWA or 1763-L16BWA??

You can't tell from the software which model you have in the field. Those part numbers as well as others are legitimate and often followed by a backslash and then the revision number.

So 1763-L16AWA/A would be a series A, 1763-L16AWA/B would be a series B.

The first character you see after the number is usually referring to the type of voltage used to power the unit.

1763-L16BWA is powered by 24vdc, 1763-L16AWA is powered by 120/240VAC.
