Hello Guys,

Looking for some guidance which you may have experienced before.

I have tried to install RSlogix 500 on my laptop (Windows 2000) and when I get to installing the activation from the master disc error message "stack overflow" comes up. Thought this might be a Window 2000 issue, so tried to install on Windows 98 with the same result. Any ideas/guidance would be much appreciated.

Tried a search on here, result came up with a problem someone had on ethernet connection, this does not reflect my problem just installing from fresh.

Regards,

Ken R.

Try skipping the Activate feature when you do the install; after the install has completed, run EVMOVE directly from the key disk.

If that fails, try running the software with the key disk in the drive, until someone else has another idea...

Hello Ken,

Serial No. begins with 1012. Went to Rockwell support and have not been given any constructive assistance.

Our I.T. guy can't make sense of it either.

Ken R.

Thanks Rototech,

Tried yor suggestion earlier, still same error message when I try either on 98 or 2000.

Just a little background, this software was purchased back in August 2000 for a Rig and was never installed. We are currently looking at giving this Rig remote support from Aberdeen. So whilst on the Rig I took this software back with me to install on my machine. The intention is to use a MOXA DE-311 to provide a virtual serial port over our extended LAN. This works fine with the Mitsubishi hardware we have installed on the Rig. We also have some SLC 503's which I would like to access using the same method. Hence want to install this software on my PC.

I was sort of teasing; I saw this Stack Error message a couple of years ago when the RSI.MASTER serial number (it activates *any* product) was rolled out to specialists and managers. Those serial numbers begin in 3001 and 3002.

But RSI products had to have a modification made to accept that "golden" activation, and a utility was sent out to all the owners of that activation that allowed their RSI software to run from that file. All software since mid-1999 has had those changes from the start.

Since you have a conventional activation file, all I can think of is that the activation files on your hard drive have somehow become corrupted (some virus-scans can do this, so can compressing the drive). In that case, you'll need to delete the EVRSI.SYS and 386SWAP.PAR files that are in your root directory, then try running the EVMOVE utility again. You might try also finding another copy of the EVMOVE utility other than the one on your activation floppy.

Good luck with that MOXA. Search for the thread where a fellow spent a week banging his head against it until MOXA gave him working firmware. Oooh, but he saved $200 !

Thanks Ken, I'll try your suggestion. Regards the corruption side, I hand carried the software through an airport x ray machine, maybe that has contributed to the cause.

MOXA works fine, have it installed on a couple of our Offshore Rigs for Mitsubishi hardware. Only problem I had with it which is no big deal, is it seems to have a preference for COM 5 port for some reason. Also had to hardwire the power supply into one module, the plug and socket arrangement kept working loose and dropping out the power. Saying that there is a fair bit of vibration where it was installed.

Thanks for the advice.

Regards,

Ken R.
