I'm the same guy from a coule of days ago who needed to connect 68 Micrologix 1000's to a SLC-503 and transfer a few words of data into and out of. I need to read about 10 words and write about 6. We discussed Device net and Ethernet. Ethernet's out, $38,800.00 just for EIN communicators. Devicenet requires several networks to get enough data, probably 4 SLC cards $1,000.00 apiece possibly D-NET software, if so another $1,000.00 and 68 NET-DIN interface modules at $ 219.12 each for $14,900.00. Maybe ok but still tight. Since I only need to get data, and sometimes write, from a PV-550 to the SLC-500 to the individual micrologix, here's what I was thinking I might do. What if I have 4 DH-485 networks and use a switching system (relays/electronic/whatever) to switch DH-485 networks. The SLC would select which network to look at and when communications were established would read or write whatever data was necessary. 68 NET-AIC modules @ 154.00 each would only cost $10,472.00 and I could still get the data I need. Slow-yes but exceptable. If DH-485 is similar to RS-485, then I'm assuming I will need some termination for the un-connected networks on the SLC end. I know I'm asking a lot, but any help or advice will be appreciated.. Yes there is a panelview 550 on the system and I will eventually connect this system to a computer with RSVIEWS or something similar for data reading..
