Greetings everybody,

I'm searching for any supplier (located any place in the world!) that could supply brand computers that are compatible with windows NT.

The reason of this is that we have an old Yokogawa DCS software that can only run with Win NT operating system.

And if there are no other chances, We'd accept used computers.
So, please if anybody could provide links or so for such suppliers ..

Thanks in advance and sorry for this OT but I really trust the members of the site in any Control-realted problem!

Just purchase a brand new top of the line PC and mention to the buyer that its for "Da maintanance department".

Wait 1 week and you'll probably get someting that works with NT.

You new PC will have been taken by somebody higher up the food chain :)

:D :D Pierre, You have to work in my old mill.

All joking aside, Pierre is right. Go that route. If you really want a "new" computer, purchase an old stock, but brand new motherboard, case, etc. One thing you have to be careful about, the newest computers may crash older software that was optimized for a computer from when WinNt first came out.

I really dobut that any brand new PC would have a problem running windows NT. The only problem I can see is the NT OS might not be able to access all the resources, (hard drive space) due to NT limitiations. I would get new hardware in any case. If you use an old mother board or drive controller etc.. and it dies latter on it'll be diffucult to replace.

My 2 cents.

Any new computer should work. Windows XP is NT6. The only issue would be drivers. Video, Sound, and CDROM. Choose a standard CDROM drive, not the latest DVD. For each piece of hardware, go to the manufacturer site to download drivers for older software such as NT4.
Go to a computer builder and specify your software platform.

Hold your hosses here.....

You have to be careful when buying a new computer because most of them are now designed for WinXP...ie there will be no drivers AVAILABLE for any other OS. Verify before purchase that it will run NT, also note that the support lifecycle and availability for NT has ended, it may be time to look into upgrading.

So funny, I had the same issue this morning.
Looking for a ... MS DOS computer !!
However the problem was the ISA slot (these no longer exist with new computers) to re use the old comm board.

The solution we found is to find a "not too old" computer in an office and exchange it with a brand new one. The owner was happy and so are we !

Any good Industrial Computer Manufacturer can supply New PCs with just about any OS and ISA slots.

BTW, it won't be long and you will not be able to find desktops with PCI slots.

I have some old indramat software won't run on anything other than NT. I keep and old pentium 2 computer on the side for it.

You could purchase a couple old computers for less than the price of a new one and have a backup.

Ron is right, you may have some real problems getting NT to run on a new computer. I guarantee that you won't be able to run more than the standard VGA driver.

Ron is correct.

Coming out of the IT field I have delt with my share of NT computers. Even thought 2000 is NT5 and XP is NT6, they are completly different.

Your best bet it to buy older computers (refurbished, alot of local computer dealers have them) and to go that route if you have to have NT.

Otherwise it may be time to upgrade the software (if possible).

Even if the PC has PCI slots, it might be these are unuseable. Last year I got two brand new PCs to replace two other ones. When I tried to reuse the PCI MPI interface cards (to program Siemens S7 PLCs), I couldn't fit these in the new PCs. The cards were full height PCI cards, the new PCs were SFF (Small Form Factor) and only half-height PCI cards would fit. I had to buy the newer USB2MPI adapters to be able to use my new PCs.

Kind regards,
