TI505/SimaticTI505 plc serie (CPU 545/555/575) used a Remote base Controller 505-6851. There were also versions 505-6851A (and 505-6851B, I think). I think they are newer versions. What is the difference between the versions?

Hello Bardes

In our plant we make use of the 505-6851A and for the older 500 I/O bases the 500-2114A RBC controllers. They were connected to 555-1102/1103 cpu,s but since 2008 we replaced the 555 cpu,s with the newer CTI 2500 series CPU,s.
You are correct that the A and B versions are the newer ones and the difference at the front is that a 505-6851A has a thumbwheel for setting the Base number and with the 505-6851B this is a rotary switch.
But you want to know what the difference is in firmware and that I can,t tell you at the moment.
Next week on the job I can look for you if I can find some details in the older manuals.

Why do you need the information , are you planning to change the existing configuration by adding some extra modules in the remote base or do you want to replace the 555 cpu,s?

Kind regards
Henny

We have a customer using a an older 545 cpu with a 505-6851. I need to know what versions of 6851 I can use if the 6851 fails.
Referring to the manual 505-8201-3, posted by Dravik, this seems to to be the case (-/A and -/B versions)

Thanks for posting this manual!

Hello Bardes.

You can use both the a and b versions. Also the rbc,s from CTI can be used.
I work for 25 years now in our company and never had to replace a rbc.
Mostly when getting base logoffs it has something to do with a bad powersupply or perhaps incorrect rs485 cabeling. However the CTI cpu,s are more sensitive for incorrect rs485 cabeling then the older 555 cpu,s. By bad cabeling I mean to long droplines in relation to trunklines, incorrect termination etc.

Kind regards

Henny
