Rotary Encoder in PLC Modicon M340

I use Unity Pro XL (hardware is Modicon M340 + BMX AMO 0210 + BMX AMI 0410 + DDI 3202K + DDO 1602). I want to ask, I want to create a system that can control the PID motor speed on a conveyor with a feedback sensor is a rotary encoder. is there who can help me how to read the round rotary encoder that can be processed for feedback in my PID system?

don't you need a counter module to read the pulses from the encoder?

i dont have a counter module, the price is very expensive for a student

I would look for a DSP starter kit that is designed for motion control. A PLC is too slow.

I would search of a motor control development kit that has a built in encoder interface.

TI has some motor control kits of different types. I bought one once that controlled two BLDC motors. The kits are relatively cheap but they are not as robust or packaged as well PLC modules.
