Hi Guys,

Please Pardon me if this sound odd.
I'm to provide PLC functional Design Specification and PLC Logic Desig to a Client. I need to be sure of what I'm sending as I have not prepared such documents before. Though they may be what I know but I really need to be sure.

Is PLC functional Design Specification they mean the same as Data sheet?

Can someone give me a Sample/template of PLC functional Design Specification and PLC Logic Design please?

I will appreciate.
Regards

If you are doing the programming then you need that from them, so you know what to make the PLC do.

I'm guessing the Logic Design would be the PDF of the prog once you have written it, or documents to support that.

No, it's not a spec sheet, there is loads of stuff out there on FDS, have a read on Wikipedia for start and download a few examples, you should get the idea

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Functional_specification

Good example here:

Yes bro,
But I already know what to tell plc to do. It is just a simple logic for Tank overfill protection. level switch trigger is used to energize alarm/buzzer and de-energize ESD Valve. THat's all. I'm to develop every thing from design to end point, From this how is the PLC functional Design Specfication going to look like?

@ Tragically1969,
Thanks for your response,

I have gone through https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Functional_specification
but could get what I actually need.
Any further help will be appreciated please.

Functional Design Specification should come from the client to state exactly what he requires from the control system, including operations, shutdown states and interlocks, reaction to alarms.

if they do not provide one, then if you are writing it, it is your interpretation of what the control system is suppose to do.
use that as a template for what to test when built, and have that as a record of how the system worked when commissioned and witnessed by the client.
They then sign for getting what they asked for......

Logic Design would cover the technical detail of what was actually built, rather than how it operates.

Thanks Bro,

Please, from what you just said, I think all of that has already been incorporated in the control philosophy. Won't it look like repeating what has already been stated?

Doesn't always come from the client, but i suppose it is very industry dependent, the one i am in it's always a specialist contractors job to produce the FDS, the client might have just provided a set or guidelines to a consultant to write a specification or description of operation from, then the specialists write an FDS based on that.

Please can any one give me a typical sample or template?

As my link in my first post, a good example here but probably hundreds of other ones out there, Google is our friend here.....

Thanks for the support,
From what I'm seeing in this sample it seems FDS is same as Control Philosophy Are my correct?

Secondly how is cost and effect matrix like?
what information and format does it carry?

I appreciate your responses

A control philosophy is normally a part of the FDS, think of the FDS as a high level overview of the operation of the whole system, including software, hardware, testing plan etc. to gain approval for manufacture or production of code etc.

Cost and effect matrix, or cause and effect matrix ?

If the latter it's a matrix which details what the effect of a cause is, for instance what happens if an E-Stop is pressed, or other actions of the system are triggered. Again, Google is your go to.

Thanks,
Cause and Effect I meant. it's typo error.

Thank you for the insight
Do you have a sample of it please?
