Hello,

I have a question about the Compact logix Devicenet scanner 1769-SDN.

Can I add a Safety module (1791DS-IB8OX8) to the I/O config? If not, how can I map the safety inputs from this module into my Safety Task?

Thank you :)

Welcome to the PLCTalk forum community !

In general, DeviceNet safety I/O modules are configured entirely inside Studio 5000 Logix Designer, as part of the "IO Tree" under a 1756-DNB. This is unlike ordinary DeviceNet devices that are configured and mapped into the Scanner's scanlist.

But to my knowledge, the 1769-SDN does not support safety I/O. You can use a 1788-EN2DN to bridge CIP Safety modules on DeviceNet to a Compact GuardLogix, but not the 1769-SDN, just because the 1769 architecture doesn't support CIP Safety.

I'm taking that in part from my knowledge of the older Compact GuardLogix, and in part from the Knowledgebase:
