Hi everyone.

I would like to know what are some brands you have had good experience with and what to stay away from. And do you have any recommendations for a good supplier. I don't have a lot of experiance with VFD's so a good supplier is important.

What is important to me is:
Well made product that does not need tinkering (A set it and forget it).
A supplier who can sell me the correct product, (being able to size it etc.)
A supplier/company with good tech support that would be willing to walk me through every step of setting it up if needed.
Price is always a concern, but I am willing to pay more for a good product.

I had been ordering from Famaga previously.
I've attached a picture of my Spindles plate if interested.

Agreed - that Yaskawa is a great option for VFD's.

I would offer that Mitsubishi is an equally great option. I have used Mitsi extensively, and had great results. Their drive are very robust, have very few problems, and their tech support is also great.

Schneider 600 series or the 900 series.

We use these drives out in the Oilfield where everything is EXTREME!!!

We communicate with all of our drives thru Modbus/Tcp because they are hooked to our Scada system (Ignition)

We use AB powerflex family of drives. very reliable and easily integrated with our AB PLCs.

Yaskawa. If your in the Western U.S. contact Dykman Electric Motor, great people and lots of inventory on the shelf.

Last time I checked, Georgia is not considered “Western U.S.” ...

A-B, ABB, Yaskawa, Toshiba and Mitsubishi all make great drives and have good tech support, but the only one that has a distribution policy that REQUIRES local specialists is A-B. The others market through commissioned reps who often sign up distributors that just take orders and defer everything to factory tech support lines. That’s not to say there aren’t good distributors who take their jobs seriously for all of those product lines, there are. it’s just not an absolute requirement like it is with A-B so it’s hit-and-miss in some areas of the country.

PS: to a great extent, if a VFD is really terrible, it doesn’t last long on the market. So to that extent, you can’t really go too wrong with any name brand product. The only thing to steer clear of are the no-name drives being sold on FleaBay and Amazonk; there are Chinese mfrs spitting out absolute **** and changing their names/seller profiles faster than their supposed warranties that take advantage of people wanting to believe they can get a good VFD for half the price of the name brands. It’s just not true.
