Micrologix 1200 and Analog Sensor Compatibility Questions

So I've got a 1762-L40bwar Micrologix 1200 PLC. I'm looking to incorporate atleast 2 analog sensors into my project (conductivity and pH) and I am looking at the 1762-IF4 card to add this ability.

The sensors it would read would be from Omega. The following PDF shows the combo transmitter (for matching impedance to the PLC) for conductivity/pH http://www.omega.com/Green/pdf/CDTX300.pdf In Addition to the CDTX300 transmitter I would also buy the sensor probes (CDE-300 and PHE-7351-15).

I am fairly certain that this setup should work but I wanted to make sure before I go ahead and order these items, I'm just trying to ensure I won't be blindsided by a problem while working with them later.. so far nothing in the manuals is causing concern though.

Thanks!

Yeah, it is components that will condition a pH and conductivity probe signal, provide isolation and
standard high level signal outputs.

But . . .

pH probes change over time (sometimes quite rapidly).
pH probes do not last forever, in some processes they are replaced weekly.
pH probes need constant recalibration and attention.

(Opinion mode on) You're doing yourself and the pH owners/users a disfavor. You are creating the pH and conductivity user interface at some level, even if you end up throwing the instruction sheet for the transmitter at whomever has to use this creation.

Panel mounted pH analyzers typically have a built-in display with a push button calibration routine to step the user through the cal steps. And the adjustments are keypad arrow up or key pad arrow down or "enter" or whatever.

You've got a box with pots. Ugggh. Frankly, this is the kind of set up that we get calls about to replace because "it's too confusing for the operators to calibrate the probes".

You might consider the alternative: a panel mount pH (and/or conductivity) analyzer with a conditioned 4-20mA analog output that gets run to the PLC. Then the user interface to the probe is through the analyzer box and you just get the 4-20

Danw thanks for the reply, I agree with your sentiments.. Do yo have any suggestions of panel mount pH / Conductivity sensors? They would need to be submersible as well.. ( I was unaware of the existence of panel mount sensors so im glad you've mentioned it)

Were you thinking somethinglike this? http://www.omega.com/pptst/DP24PH.html

This should connect directly to the PLC without a transmitter, yes?

Or possibly http://www.omega.com/pptst/PHCN201.html (pH)
and http://www.omega.com/pptst/CDCN201.html (conductivity)
together?

EDIT: looks like the above 2 links do not have an output but just a relay for closing/opening when going above /below a certain threshold.. but I need values for my application.. so I think the first link for the DP24PH would work.

That meter isn't designed for pH, it's designed for weighing (the button labeled tare", and it's been adapted for pH.

I can only tell you about the industrial pH and conductivity analyzer I've used, where descriptive display prompts are vital for stepping people through a pH calibration (I use Aquametrix or Honeywell).

Aquametrix Shark TXP transmitters do either pH or conductivity (same panel analyzer, different probe, setup and wiring)
http://www.water-analytics.com/sites/default/files/data_SHARK-TX-P_0.pdf

For both pH and conductivity in one analyzer, Honeywell's UDA analyzer:

I recommend people buy the probe(s) from whomever you buy the analyzer from.

Different brand pH probes use different temperature sensors, and the temp sensor type has to be useable by the analyzer.
