Crouzet M3, trouble downloading an existing program from PLC

I have a Millennium 3 CD12 PLC dating from around 2008. I'd like to download and modify the current program on it. When I connect to it and click "read in the controller", I get the message "The read has not been performed, Transfer function 423 Application specific function is not compatible with this version of the workshop". I don't think there is any restriction in the program on the PLC to access/modification. I'm therefore suspecting the PC software version.

I no longer have the original version of Crouzet M3 which was used to program the PLC, and cannot find it online anywhere. I've tried the latest version, and the oldest I could find (AC7 (2.5)). Am I on the right track here, and if so, does anyone here have an older copy of M3 that I could try?

Many thanks in advance.
