I've just acquired an old Klockner Moeller PS316 PLC and am wondering where i could obtain the necessary software (ie. Sucosoft S30) to program the PLC. :)

throw it away and get a "good" plc to play with. It may be ok if all you want is one to learn on but I wouldnt use in a real world app. It is very outdated.Unless you have a copy of the original program for a pre-programmed plc you will not be able to connect and obtain a editable/viewable copy. It follows an IEC convention that requires you to have the full program to connect and view/edit, otherwise all you can get is the hex/machine code that you can reload when a problem occurs.

You can download a demo of the latest version at:
http://www.moeller.net/en/industry/automation/compact_plcs/software/index1.jsp

I may be able to help at a later time getting ver 3, its on my old laptop.

Thanks for your help mate,
The PLC i have is not for any real world application. It's just to learn more about PLC's. If you've got a version of Sucosoft S30 that would be great. Otherwise thanks for your advice.
:)

Sucos30

I have the software, send me your email and I'll send it through my Hotmail addr. The virus cop snags all my zip files from work. I don't know how much good this will do you, I have the interface converter too and still can't break into the machine we have. Get a data read error.

The Moeller is a "strange" plc.
I still modify the programs on them; however you can only go "On-line" if you have the original source code on your hard drive.
If the software detects any differences between the hard drive code and the code in the PLC you will not be able to get online?

Steve

Sort of security?

Hey,

So if I understand correctly that's a sort of security?

So maybe I can never acces the plc again if I haven't got the 'original program'?

What is exactly this original program?

Thanks,

Thom

The sucosoft S30 is the PLC programming software.
You use this to program your PLC in Ladder or Statement list

When you have programmed your Logic you Compile it into machine code and download it to the PLC.

This compiled version of your ladder/stl logic is what runs in the PLC to control your machine.

The code on the PLC and the code on your programming device (lap top) must match exactly before you can go "online" and monitor or modify your program!!

If the supplier of the machine did not supply the "original" PLC code on disk then you would never be able to go online; so this could be used as "security"?

Hope this helps?

sucosoft s40

MoellerMan:

Hopefully you will answer questions on the forum for the benefit. I recently have changed jobs and work for a Moeller distributer. The switch from AB to Moeller is an uphill one but not insurmountable.

Welcome aboard.

To clarify a few points.

Moeller plc ranges are

ps20, ps22,ps24 - These were the earliest and still about you need either specialised programming equipment eg prg 22 , prg24 or some software is available but compiler cards are required as no on board ports were available.

PS3 small compact controller bit and byte adressing. Sucos3 software can decompile a program form these or a hand held prg3 is also available. two interfaces exist a card thats a full lentght isa card or alternatively a more modern serial port adapter is available for use with the latest versions of sucos3.

PS316/306 more powerful controller. 316 was modular rack mounted system 306 compact version similar in apperance to a PS3. 316 was available as a byte or word processor. 316 was available as 306 or 306-ee with built in eeprom memory however approx half memory of the ram version.

PS32 Powerful rack system with 32 bit math.

current ranges are called PS4 series and windows based programming.

newest range just out i cant remeber range name but check moeller site.

Sucos , sucos3 , sucos6 were the programming packages for the PS3 range of plcs.

I have a wide range of spares for all systems even the obsolete ones and full programming / modification equipment.

A PS316 without source code can be recovered by reverse engineering and qoutes are made once a copy of the compiled code from the PLC is recieved.

PS32 without source code is im afraid a rewrite for mods/ online programming.

This is not information from reading manuals / playing I was employed by moeller for 5 yrs as an automation engineer and specialised in moeller plcs for a further 10 yrs approx 15 yrs total experience on these plc's.
hope this helps .

any further questions email me on [email protected]

I would not mind knowing a little more about the reverse engineering aspect. I recently had to deal with a PS316 that had cards going bad, mainly analog, which no longer can be obtained. The digital cards from the newer PS416 will work with a PS316 but not the analog cards...if I remember the details correctly.

I wanted to upgrade the machine to a PS416 because I figured the code would be easily ported BUT found out that there are 3 files involved with actually being able to edit the code. To reload the ps316 only one file is needed but that file can not be edited/viewed.

The OEM of the machine went out of business, the company that did the control/electrical/plc would not give or sell us the program/code.

I spent many days and nights with this plc and moeller representatives...I was told there was NO WAY without the 3 files of the original code to port it to a PS416. I still have the .p6w file which I understand can be reloaded if it were to crash but its not enough to allow editing/viewing or porting.

Just for general knowledge I would appreciate knowing how that model can be reverse engineered. I found no way to access the plc without the original code...download or upload, the only option was to clear memory to upload ....if I remember correctly.

I still have Sucosoft3 and some files for that old machine,,,,,would like to know HOW to do the reverse engineer thing.
