about RTU

HI every one we treat in our company with RTU and i find in RTU cabinet (alstom ISTAT 300) and i search in alstom web about ISTAT 300 and i find its transducer
My question is why we use transducer in RTU and for what

not :-
Our main job in the company is distribute electricity (transfer from 33kv to 11kv )
we use RTU to collect data from switch gear and send it to control center
